I will be out of town next weekend, and in any case, leading from the back of the pack is sub-optimal...hopefully another local will be available.

Not sure if I will be around myself, depending on my schedule I might get out one day.

You should edit your original post with Day preference if you have one..

Calavera is not an illegal spot. Those great trails around the lake are listed on the City of Carlsbad website. There may be a problem with some other nearby areas.
