I didn't know quite what to expect out of that trail network. I have to say, I normally don't get too gung-ho about that type of riding, except for a few of the sections that had some excitement/fun. However, I also have to say that I had a great time! And it really kicked my ass! During that last mile or two of climbing, all I could think of was beer and chapstick. Yes, it was hot a dry.

The company was great as well. Big thanks to Jose for leading that ride. :bang:

Happy Birthday to the three amigos.

And thanks to the remaining crew for humoring my aversion to eating at Chipotle (in Chula Vista for Christ's sake!), and moving up the road for some real Mexi-food (good call on Jorge's Augg).

Awesome day guys.

CHIPOTLE!? WTF?!!!

Great ride thanks Jose for leading. The technical section was a lot of fun wished I had hit the first roll, next time. I have not had a ride where I ran out of water while having a big smile the whole ride in some time. Sorry guys and gal for heading to Chipoltle but I was fungry and had no clue where to go. Good call on Jorge's Mexicatessan, I'll go back there and looking forward to another southbay ride this season with more water this time. Happy Birthday Augustine, Don and Fred!

Well, I'm glad I went. It was fun and a great ride even if it did beat me down! I knew who I was going with, and where, and I expected some long hard climbing. I really didn't mind tacking on the extra mileage to the Steel Bridge, in fact I was kind of hoping we'd do that. But I think those of us who were new to Sweetwater weren't expecting how much climbing was in store to get back to the trucks! The trails we took descending from Rock House to the river were a blast, and some of the singletrack along the river to the bridge was really fun. It was a really good group of people! Nice to see familiar faces and meet new. Jose, thanks for guiding us. Mike, thanks for driving. Fred, thanks for hanging back with me at the end. Even after I ran out of water, I knew we were close enough I'd make it back, just very slowly. That's the most walking I've done in years, but I think that was true for several of us. Good weather even if it was unseasonably hot. Good scenery. Good folks, good ride, good beer, good food. It's all good. Happy Birthday guys, and thanks for the ride.

Just found this video from the mass ride at Rockhouse back in Jan - lots of playing around with camera angles. Meant to post it at the time but vimeo was playing up. Fun ride! Although the memory of my sandpapery, swollen tongue after running out of water 30mins from home is still a bit raw...might go have a glass of iced water right now to make up for it.

^^ Clearly that is not how to embed a vimeo, any tips?
