Bootleg canyon was on the menu for the last day of our weekend. I have been meaning to get here for several years, and while we wouldn't be hitting up the gnar DH stuff, this would give me a good intro. Very fun trails. More technical than I expected, the XC trails here are more like AM with some good drops and challenging features. This is some of the best desert riding I have done to date.

We start with some quick laps around the lower features
Image

Image

We climb up West leg all the way to the top. Robo goes back to prove the impossible corner is possible
Image

Everyone was laughing at me as I took the handlebar shot to end all handlebar shots. Who is laughing now?
Image

4 riders...4 thrones. As if it were meant to be
Image

Robo with Lake mead as backdrop
Image

We decided on Powerlines as our first descent, this is the entry to it:

Note the dab at 0:09

Mo gets full clean

Robo charges some rolling singletrack
Image

There are some nice technical bits on Powerline
Image

Mo navigates a corner
Image

Andy rolls a nice drop
Image

Where's waldo...or Andy
Image

Mo navigates rock after Powerline connects to East Leg
Image

Back at the bottom, we hit up a jump line
Image

Mo opted to skip the rest of the ride. We head up Mother to link into an off the map trail that takes us around the mountain.
Image

Andy enjoying some sweet singletrack. You had to ride an Ibis to get invited on this ride. Mo, as organizer, got an exemption
Image

There are some fun challenging sections
Image

Robo can lower his seat 9" putting it out of the way. Instead he does things the hard way
Image

Andy rounds a sharp corner
Image

The singletrack has awesome flow
Image

So much singletrack it hurts
Image

Robo enjoys the flow
Image

Andy weaves through some rock
Image

We climb up towards a high saddle
Image

View from the saddle is excellent
Image

Robo cleans another section
Image

We traverse the ridge top
Image

Image

Nearing the top
Image

Andy rolls toward a nice drop on the first descent
Image

I round a corner (pic by Andy)
Image

Robo gets some air
Image

And then hits a nice rock section
Image

We take a higher alternate line. The main line is off to the right
Image

Robo ponders his next move
Image

On to Girl Scout we go

Robo speeds over a rock drop
Image

Cool bike shot
Image

Robo gets some more air
Image

And hits another rock line
Image

Andy and Robo speed toward the bottom
Image

Making full use of the day
Image

I will be back...

I sure hope Robo followed Robo's Rules and HAB his ass back up that scree field for a do-over. Dabs are unacceptable!

Robo Rules were in full effect for myself at least. Cleaned it on the first run and evdog wasn't prepared to film, so he made me hike back up that loose slope to do another run (secretly hoping for a fail I'm sure. )

Evdog takes an extended dab:

Some more pics coming in a bit.

Upon arrival, evdog was pretty stoked to have a mini skills park to warm up with.

At the top, evdog second guesses not bringing the big bike.

The entry to Powerpole is, as usual, steeper than the camera can show.
Image

Due to its remote entry, I've always skipped Powerpole. But it is one of the best out here.

Evdog on East Leg.

This jump landed into loose kitty litter.

Evdog drops a big rock section on Skyline.
Image

Andy rounds a tough bend.
Image

Andy squeezing through rock on Girl Scout.
Image

Andy on the tricky Mother section.
Image

A lot of this trail was slow going due to a tread width under a foot and a sheer drop.
Image

Even though we could see the road and even hear golfers on the course, this trail feels very remote.
Image

We explore options for the next trip out here.
Image

Andy drops.
Image

Evan flows.
Image

This one was actually easier than it looked.
Image

The alternate rock drop to wash line.

Evdog on our final trail of the day, taking West Leg back.

I was glad evdog was stoked with this place. I've been making somewhat of an annual trip out here since 2003 or so, and I'm still finding new stuff. What a blast!

Robo, that was about as impressive a series of action shots I have ever seen on a TR, and some really really great angles, seriously good stuff!! They just kept coming and coming .

Great pictures!
I ended up on that "unnamed" trail off Mother from the Caldera trail by mistake. I was glad that I had plenty of daylight and water because I was a little uncertain where the trail was going to lead me. :D

Did you folks ride the Lakeview trails? Not as technical, but great, great flow.

I had it in my grand route plans, but we ran out of time. That happens when you take pics every 500ft! I usually like to venture out there though, and you're right - some great flow. From Nov. 2010 on Upper Lake View:
