This is the best view of las vegas....

Image

Got to lav vegas on thursday night and stayed at the luxurious sahara casino.. Got up early and rode blue diamond / late night trail in friday. This place is way fun, lots of fast, flowy singletrack and cactus to dodge.

Image Yes... that is a lefty on a foes...

After 'lunch' we hit the cowboys trails... we did the loop on MTBills sites. The climb up to the top was fun... techy and steep in places. Once you got the top the view of las vegas was awesome... Image

Now the real fun begin... Boneshaker was awesome...I wish I had more juice in the tank and more heft on the front of my bike. Fast and loose, with small drops and rollers all the way back to the valley floor. We were racing against time as it was getting dark fast. Basically by the time I got back it was already dark.

Saturday was bootleg. More fun! Super fast and flowy singletrack... Chunky in sections but all in all lots of fun. The skills park at the bottom is really fun also. The fact that something like that doesn't exist in san diego is retarded.

There is some crazy shit there that I did not hit.. I was not having a super day. Getting over the flu and be on a unfamiliar bike severely depleted my mojo. I need to go back there soon! I am sure BK and Quitestorm will be posting more pics soon.

Thanks to BK and Spence for setting up this trip. Thanks for Matt (not on this forum) for driving my ass up there. Thanks to Rachel and Mike (Quitestorm) for waiting for us for 40 mins at ihop while our GPSs sent us to the wrong one.

Also special thanks to Eric at Zumwalts, they hooked me up with a loner bike while my fork get repaired.

I am spending the better part of T-day week there. I am trying to figure out the logistics of space in a van full of family and bags. But if I can figure out the space....

Gonna be riding all day on the 27 and 28. Bootleg one day, cowboy trails the other. Might meet 406 and Marla at Bootleg one day - I'm guessing the 27th. Be happy to hook up with you to ride either day.

PM me if you can fit your bike in the van and find some ride time.

406 - the Sahara was very cool about the bikes, even letting us walk through the casino floor with bikes.

I met up with the group on Friday night. So i missed out on Cowboy/bluediamond :crying:

But bootleg was definitely worth the 10 hrs of total drive time for 5 hrs of riding. We took the $5 shuttle up for the first run. It was pretty crowded that day and there was a small wait in the morning for the shuttle (although a local said it was completely dead the previous weekend). QS and I opt for a dh run while the rest of the group does an XC run.

The DH runs require a good 15 min hike-a-bike from the shuttle point to the trailheads. The top of the DH run is pretty technical, rocky of camber stuff. but about 1/2 down it smooths out and flows (or gets even gnarlier if you feel so inclined). Following QS definitely forced me to ride outside of my comfort level and i just rolled through some stuff I would normally have to eye up and think about, including a steep roll and a drop that I might have never done on my own....stoked. I read on other sites that the difficulty rating of the BC runs are underrated compared to Mammoth, this is DEFINITELY true.

The rest of the day we ran our own odd man out shuttle. If it weren't for the 15min hike a bike to the DH runs i think you might be able to beat the shuttle truck back to the bottom lot on some runs.

I cant wait to go back and do some exploring!!!

BKJ took a ton of pics, hopefully she will post them soon

Are the cowboy trails technical? I've always ridden Bootleg in Vegas and I'll be there Dec 1-2 but wouldn't mind checking out cowboy trails if they have some fun chunk.

I'd say the uphill is fairly technical. Lots of step-ups... rocky sections every 10 seconds. The downhill (Boneshaker) is NUTZ!

Yeah cowboy trail on the way up was pretty technical... Kind of like a steeper and looser 'way up' on elfin.

Boneshaker was pretty awesome... pretty chunky with some fun little drops. You are going pretty fast so there is some good flow. The second half is filled with loose steep switchbacks, rollers and drops. Kinda hard to keep your speed, but way fun none the less.

If cowboy trails was in san diego it would be one of my fav local rides.
