Not just drops, but 6 to 8 foot drops!

Started Friday with the southern Blue Diamond area trails.

These are some sweet desert singletrack trails for those of you who haven't been here yet.

Then we moved up to the Red Rock district to hit up the aforementioned Cowboy trails. This was the view just across the road. Notice the rain? It never hit us that hard but did make the trails nice and packed down with little dust.

Unpacking at Cowboy Trails.

Step up. The trail is littered with these all the way up.

Then we get to the turnoff to head up to the overlook that overlooks Vegas, or you can go straight and head down Boneshaker. I just thought it was a cool sign.

And the reward for all the climbing to get here is this:

Sorry no pics of Boneshaker. There was no was I was stopping to take pics, plus I was basically riding it alone. If you wanna see what it's like for yourself, you'll just have to go there and check it out. It's fast with multipule sections of three or four 3-4 foot drops in a row! SICK!!!!!

Are the cowboy trails technical? I've always ridden Bootleg in Vegas and I'll be there Dec 1-2 but wouldn't mind checking out cowboy trails if they have some fun chunk.

Yeah cowboy trail on the way up was pretty technical... Kind of like a steeper and looser 'way up' on elfin.

Boneshaker was pretty awesome... pretty chunky with some fun little drops. You are going pretty fast so there is some good flow. The second half is filled with loose steep switchbacks, rollers and drops. Kinda hard to keep your speed, but way fun none the less.

If cowboy trails was in san diego it would be one of my fav local rides.

Very cool, thanks for the recommendation guys.

Those not fortunate enough to go out there are still waiting for the Go Big pictures!

Talk of 6 and 8 foot drops peeks the curiosity!

SHIT! I left it back at the car.
The lefty wasn't bad. Kind of a weird choice but a nice fork for XC stuff.

Yeah we didn't take alot of pics after reaching the lookout point on cowboy trails. It was already past 4 and it was pretty cold up there. We were racing the sunset, BK was the only one smart enough to bring a light which was she turned on 2/3rd down boneshaker. I was feeling like shit trying to get over the flu so taking pics was not my priority.

You guys are not gonna be too happy. I have some pics from Bootleg but not many, and none of the big drops at the bottom of Boneshaker as I was riding alone (ahead of Wirk and Tara and Matt and Rachel had gone down the hill early) and I don't usually stop to take pics. You guys know... that's not my style. Sorry. Tomorrow I'll try to get the rest of the pics into Photobucket and on here, I promise.

Great TR guys!

Boneshaker is one messed-up, technical trail that gets super steep and loose at the end. Don't know why, but people love to sandbag this trail a lot (i.e. pretend it wasn't a big deal at all). Even MTBill does it. I personally prefer to come down on another DH trail from the top of Cowboy Trails called "Bob Gnarly" - it is a bit more manageable but still loose and steep.

Hey Vegas riders,

Do any of you have a link to a good trail map of the Cottonwood/Late Night/Red Rock/Blue Diamond/Cowboy Trails? I'm looking around online for one, but can't seem to find anything with actual trail names, etc. I seem to recall the bike shop in Blue Diamond has some good ones, but I'll probably be starting earlier than they open.

I have a decent GPS file for Cowboy Trails if you want it. It does not cover every trail but it will get you around. I think I can pack the bike so I will be in touch.

Rob - here's the best map I've been able to find for the Blue Diamond/Cottonwood area. Of course the best way is to get out and explore. The Dead Horse/Bonnie & Clyde loop is pretty fun and somewhat less traveled (can be hard to navigate). There's a really fun, techy section coming down the back of Wison's Tank Overlook called "Pipeline Scrape" that will keep you on your toes.
