Post subject: | Nov Goose trip - JEM/Hurricane Rim/Goulds |
After a day at Little Creek we were looking to get our flow on - JEM-Hurricane Rim-Goulds is the perfect place for that. On the last trip here in April we skipped the Goulds Rim part of this loop as we were trying to get in another ride that day. This time, we would ride the whole thing. Winds had calmed down and the weather was a pleasant 60 or so...perfect riding weather. Goulds turned out to be one of the flowier sections. We also started at a trail head off Hwy 9 at Sheepsbridge road. I'd highly recommend starting here and riding Hurricane Rim first, to Goulds, to JEM. That way you get the ultra fun JEM descent at the end of the ride. We start off above the Virgin river Very scenic, and the fall colors add a nice touch to the landscape We had to ride a short connector from the trailhead over to the bottom of JEM And then we were off! Offroadie on a short chunky descent The trail follows the rim for some time Hurricane rim has a fair bit of climbing on it, over a couple of ridgelines Fortunately the climbs lead to some fun, switchbacked descents Offroadie back above the rim Bjammin cruising Offroadie gets tripped up thru a narrow spot and walks out of the low spot Maybe his seat is too high? I think he was saying something here about Sladnas' mom View over Hurricane Heading down to the lookout Self shot Enjoying the flow down some more switchbacks Crossing over towards the end of Hurricane Rim Excellent views and good flow on Goulds, after a fire road climb up to the mesa top This trail takes you over to the rim above another canyon and then around to the top of JEM Bjammin ready to hit JEM RIP Wile E Coyote Off we go! In China wash Offroadie exits the wash at high speed Bjammin flying Long shadows in the afternoon And spectacular lighting Offroadie cruising toward the end of JEM Back on the connector Epic light to end the day JEM was a great way to end the ride, and we finished with close to 25mi this day. We had been thinking of doing another short ride after this somewhere else, but the case of beer in the truck said otherwise. |

Those pics bring back some good memories. A really fun ride. JEM descent is one of the only reasons to have a triple front chainring. Just wondering, did you see anything or here anything regarding a singletrack go around of the fire road out of Hurricane on Gould's? I have heard rumors, but haven't been out there in 3 years or so. |

dft wrote: was that coyote still alive or what? looked alive at first, but it was dead, judging by the smell when we got close moondogg wrote: Just wondering, did you see anything or here anything regarding a singletrack go around of the fire road out of Hurricane on Gould's? I have heard rumors, but haven't been out there in 3 years or so. Didn't see anything but it could be there, and I didn't think to ask at the shop. They would definitely know and I'm sure they would hook you up. We were definitely thinking it would be nice to have some singletrack instead of the several fire road sections. |
