If you ask me, a mostly xc guy, this is a most do ride for anyone that rides a mountain bike, at least ones.
Three years and about 40 pounds ago we rode this trail and I almost died, ok it felt like but this time I had such a great time riding it, it felt like a shorter trail and the climbing not as difficult this time, you are riding at about 6 to 8 thousand feet of elevation, is a 15.5 mile loop, some people shuttle it but we didn't, you climb over 2300 feet and drop just under 2000.
The trail is in the hard of the Red Canyon area near Bryce Canyon National Park.

Image

We park at the bottom of the trail and rode up the bike path along highway 12, this gradual climb is about 5 miles and then take a right at Coyote Hollow fireroad.
Image

Image

We had some clouds at the start and quickly turned dark, then we heard thunder and before we know it the rain came.
Image

It started pouring down just at the time we found shelter at a vary convenient place
Image

We waited maybe a half an hour and the sky cleared for the rest of the day with almost perfect trail and weather conditions.

Tastytrails wanted to get romantic with the local girls but no luck
Image

Image

The real fun begins.
Image

Image

Image

Is hard not to get distracted with this views.
Image

Image

Near the top.
Image

Image

And more views.
Image

Image

Phil(tastytrails) was having fun for sure.
Image

Image

Joey(stumpjumper4117) at a "classic" Thunder Mtn shot.
Image

Rodrigo climbing to the ridge.
Image

Can you tell Rodrigo is having fun?
Image

And more ridge riding.
Image

Image

But all the good things have to end, so we start to go downhill.
Image

Image

Yes, a shot with my bike on it
Image

Image

But Phil was still thinking about the local "girl".
Image

Image

An amazing trail with great friends.

And just because, here are a couple of shots from near by.
Image

Good times :bang:

Damn! Every shot is more beautiful than the next. We're going to spend a day in Bryce at the end of the month -- looks like I'll be missing my bike big time.

Eric if you are going to Bryce Canyon YOU HAVE TO ride Thunder Mountain, do it.
If you can get someone to shuttle you it can be done in a couple of hours since you will eliminate the bikepath climb and the fireroad. The upper trailhead is only 2.5 miles off the highway 12 and the lower TH is right next to it, is only 8 miles one way on singletrack, you can't get lost, is very safe, as you know I'm an expert on riding next to exposure  but seriously I would ride this trail alone at any time, if you go on a weekend there will be plenty of riders for sure.
Compromise, kiss ass or whatever you have to do but ride it.
Let me know if you want maps or more info, you'll thank me later

^^^ I'm using my bike-riding hall pass in Colorado, where we'll be staying for 4 days. I'll get to enjoy Bryce, I just won't be doing it on a bike since we're there for only 1 day.

So what happened to the other 300ft?

Awesome pics Jose!

Did you have any trouble getting the mud off your bike? We got rained on there too a couple yrs ago, and that stuff hardened like cement.

There was hardly any mud at the fireroad and ones we hit the trail it was almost dry, maybe the warm air and weather helped us.

Fantastic pics! I don't know what it is about Bryce, but I never saw a bluer sky than I saw there. I gotta go back...with a bike this time!
