GP_pilot gave a teaser for the trip last night. And what an awesome trip it turned out to be. When I first planned it I figured I'd get a couple people to come along, maybe 4-6 tops. When all was said and done there were 13. OK, Barcy & Ali don't really count, I think we all know Barcy just showed up so he'd have someone to call if he got a flat or needed a lift back up the hill.

We ended up riding Little Cr Mesa on Day 1 mainly because I heard there would be people out who could show us around a little. Little Cr is notoriously hard to follow due to large open rock slabs with few directional markings. But there would be no shop ride on Saturday and races going on in town so when I heard there would be some trail work I figured we could help them out a little and get a tour at the same time. Trail work was at noon though, so we needed a ride in the morning.

JEM trail and Hurricane Rim fit the bill nicely and offered a good warm up.

Preparations begin
Image

Wirk & BKJ didn't want to park too close to us
Image

We had a bit of a wait as GP_pilot fixed his brake
Image

And then it was off. They have cool cattle guards here. Some later on got higher and steeper. This one leads to the "technical" section of JEM
Image

Singletrack was pretty buff and fast, as promised
Image

Looking back to where we started
Image

Having fun yet?
Image

The train rolls on
Image

Image

Stang rounds a corner above the river. By this point I think we were on Hurricane Rim trail.
Image

QS and Dennis approach a lookout
Image

Followed by Kreechan and Deno
Image

Looking north
Image

And look who decided to show up! Oh, what's that, you need a ride back up to the top? I see.....
Image

There is climbing on Hurricane Rim
Image

A lot more of it than I expected. Do they think this is California or something?
Image

Deno follows BKJ down to a lookout. At this point it was 1230 and we were late for our noon meetup at the bike shop. And, we still had to retrieve vehicles and eat...
Image

Final stretch
Image

Good thing Dennis brought his car so we didn't have to finish the loop on Gould's Rim. Also note Barcy & Ali's bikes on top, mooching a ride back up the hill  This would be Barcy's token appearance for the trip.

Part II - Little Cr Mesa

We finally made it out to Little Cr around 2pm. There was a group from Color Country Bike Club out cleaning up damage from search & rescue ATVs who were out days earlier picking up a woman with a broken leg. It was just scuffing up tracks and moving in branches and rock to narrow the trail, so I figured we could help them out a little and get a bit of a tour at the same time. Little Cr is much harder to follow than Gooseberry Mesa but with all the recent damage/work and some newly placed rock cairns it was actually pretty easy....once we found the correct trailhead that is. We were far behind the work party but did some touch up here and there, and eventually caught up to them at the spot where the woman was hurt.

The trail was fine despite snow a few days before, but the road was muddy

Didn't take long for Mr Quiet "I didn't sign up for this trip to do trailwork" Storm to find something to play on.

Great day of riding! Thanks to everyone who made the trip out, and good seeing you Barcy and Ali! (even if it was only for 1/2 hr)

Another great TR, but I've got to echo Bankerboy's sentiments -- I really, really hate all of you.

Great report Evan. These reports keep me motivated to get out of work quickly and get back out in the dirt. 5 more days :bang:

Little Creek is a blast! Did you get out to the north point where the rock bridges are? We "discovered" it about three years ago and was a fantastic addition to Goose.
Sad thing is that in the two times I have been there, I haven't hit JEM, et al. One of these days...
Thanks for the reports an making us home bound riders feel like crap.

Adding on to the pictures (about 20 more). I'll try not to be redundant, but seriously... you can't get enough of the gorgeous scenery! I'm so happy that my job change allowed for this trip and am only slightly bummed (until I see more pictures that is) that I left Sunday afternoon. The terrain here is awesome - tacky, unlike anything in SoCal. Simply amazing.

I didn't want to park with them because this shot was better. Haha.

Joaquin's not the best picture taker, but I still like this shot

This is what I wanted it to look like

The JEM trail was so buff!

An awesome shot!... interrupted by Deno taking a piss.

Image

We didn't take that loop, but it was still cool to see Magic Carpet Ride
Image

GP_Pilot making his way back for another attempt

I took a lot of pictures, but not too much more since I knew ten million others did as well :)

I can't wait to see the others' pictures of Day 1 and then Day 2!

Awesome pics guys!! It was said a few times that its hard to take a bad one in this place, which is true. That said, still can't wait to see Sean et al's.

We never got to hit the north loops. It was getting a bit late and it was ride #2 on the day so we decided to throw in the towel. You need something to go back for, right?
