Favorite Trails: Any with dirt!
After some great riding at home, we packed out bikes in the trailer, connected it to the RV and headed to Arizona for the Christmas break.
First riding stop was South Mountain.
We headed in from the east side (long story there!) and decided to ride UP
Ranger Trail. We now know why most people don't climb up Ranger. The bottom was no big deal....

But then it just kept going and going and getting steeper too (all this after a few days gorging on Christmas feasts!)
Image
Yeah, it looks as steep as it is.
Then up to National and across the mountain to the north.

We ended up at some lookout area north of the towers. We saw a single track heading down towards the east side so we took off down it. Later we were told it was Geronimo, but I still have not seen a map showing that name. It ended up at a Boy Scout camp.

That was a great afternoon of riding! But once we got back to the RV it was off to SEDONA!!!
(and now I'll download the Sedona pictures....)

We stayed at this real nice RV park near the lower trailheads.
Rancho Sedona RV park.

We then found this small bike shop in town (not Bike & Bean or MTB Heaven) and asked about trails. He turned us on to a cool little book with all of Arizona's major trails. He layed out a four hour ride that would get us to many of the more popular trails and even a few lesser traveled ones.
(I'll be right back, I need to find that book.)

We rode from the RV park to Morgan Rd and then followed the single track to Chicken Pt. For Sedona newbies this was an awesome place for some extra picture taking and some trials riding!

There were a few there freeriding around and a few locals that pointed out that the conditions never get any better than then were right then and there.
From there we did the Llama trail, part of the Courthouse loop to the Templeton Trail and Baldwin Trail. Once we got back to the HT trail we decided to just pick up the pavement back to the park.
(darn, I'm having a hard time getting some of the better pictures downloaded onto this computer)
Anyway, I'll get them up later. On a side note, I'm really happy we chose to ride on Tuesday because by Wednesday the rain and wind started. We heard there was snow and ice in the Forecast for today (Thursday) so we decided to pack it in and head back home early (we needed to be back in SD by Friday.)
I'm only mildly bummed that we had to come back early. It allowed us to make a decision that we will be back in the spring for a full week of riding.

Geronimo is my favorite trail at SoMo. Gnar enough to get the heart pumping, but not too gnar so my beginner ass doesn't walk everything.

I would have liked to have had an all mountain bike for Geronimo, but I know what you are saying. The tracks on the trail were predominantly Minions, so I'm thinking that there were a few DH'rs out that day too.
