Part I: Pre-hangover ride

We wanted to check out a trail we had found the day before that we were told was pretty cool. We had some time to kill after breakfast before meeting Bankerboy, so off we went for a pre-hangover ride.

Temps weren't bad as the sun was out but it was still chilly enough to have ice in the shade
Image

A bit of climbing would yield a sweet reward

And they're off

OK, a cold waterfall

Cool trail, definitely had not been ridden in some time. And you probably thought sedona was all about rock!

Part II - Hangover

We picked up Bankerboy at Bike n Bean and drove over to Schnebly hill road. We opted to climb the singletrack rather than the road. Clouds had moved in big time and the temperature had dropped sharply so we would be in need of all the warm up we could get.

Grab bankerboy and we're off

Bankerboy descends off the rock formation

This is looking up to the top of the rock formation we were just on. A jeep guide I talked to told me that one of the locals rides a line down this face somewhere. I can't see a line
Image

The descent down munds wagon tr is fast
Image

Its a lot easier going down than up
Image

We continue on
Image

At least we could clean this section going one way
Image

The sun peaks out again as we get back to the truck
Image

This was our longest day of riding. With cool temps expected during the night we were stoked when Bankerboy offered us a hookup to the spa at the hotel he was staying at. With cold temps all week, the spa would warm us up before heading back to camp each night. Thanks Matt! Hope you enjoyed hangover...truly an amazing trail.

I was loving the Hangover trail. Talk about exposure! All I can say is don't make
an unplanned turn down the hill. You won't stop for 500'! I was happy that evdog,
406, and gman happened to be in Sedona the same week. It was nice to get a group
ride in.

The trail was not much more than a notch in a cliff in many points. Here you can see
the saddle we passed through to get to the trail in the distance

Image

Getting to the saddle was sketchy at times. This was a typical ledge but it was a tiny drop compared to some..

Image

On the back side of the saddle, looking back at the entrance to the Hangover trail. Gman coming across the exposure

Image

Evdog pretending to be a fly on the wall..

Image

The trail continues along the small ridge of bushes in the middle of the screen. Don't miss!!!

Image

Once we reached the far end of the trail, you had to descend more open rock faces. Here is
evdog making the rock stairs the rest of us smartly walked.

Image

Gman on a chunk descent shortly before he tried to run me over

Image

406 watching evdog race down an open rock face to a small saddle

Image

"I can do that faster and better" as he gets ready to pull a manual down the face

Image

Evdog comming down off the last of the trail. It was quite chunky with lots of trees added for fun.

Image

Of course I have a Baja pic too.

Image

I have a bunch of feature picks that I have not uploaded yet. I till get those out tonight.

To evdog, 406 and gman,

It was a blast!

What a fun day. I was so excited to find the magical vortex that transported us from Sedona to the North Shore and back. It takes skill and luck to find hidden trails when one doesn't have GPS tracks or good directions, big props to evdog for knowing that we should look for such a fun trail!

My photos.

^^^awesome pics guys, and good riding with you Matt!

There were a surprising number of SD people in Sedona last week that we either knew or knew people in common with. Very cool...
