A week ago, Brian (bolo), Rob (rob240z) and I went out to camp and ride in Sedona/Village of Oak Creek. We were to meet up with John (oldskool) who would arrive later in the week.

We chose to camp at a spot in the canyon off Hwy 89. The campground was named Cave Springs and this would become home for 4 nights. Once we set up camp, we lit a good fire, ate good grub, and drank an ample amount of IPA's. This would be the trend of life each night. We managed to sneak in some cards each day and gambled with rocks. Camp life kicked ass!

The next few days would be filled with some of the best trails I have ever been on. Technical climbing skills are a must on most trails. This is not really the kind of area you want to daydream whilst riding...the earth here is gnarly and Rob will attest to what happens when ya' go down. Dude suffered some dickered ribs and both big toes on his feet were all chooched from a nice digger he took. The good thing is he sucked it up and powered out the remaining rides and never bitched one single time about it. :bang:

Demanding terrain takes a toll on machines. Brian went through spokes like Charlie Sheen goes through an 8 ball of coke. Rob...well Rob gets flats (it's his thing). I went through a rear d cable and blew up my rear coil. In the end, it was all worth it.

I'm sure we are going back. I could live and die in Sedona...it is just that good! Enjoy some pics. I'm hoping Rob and Brian will drop some pics and vids in here.

Mitch ain't lying. The ground in Sedona is not very forgiving. I only wish that I chooched it into the cabbage and not a f-ing rock slab. Oh well, finally made it to urgent care today and my ribs are only bruised, not broken or fractured. I have to give a shout out to Vicoprofen and Stone IPA, my other two good friends on this trip.

On to the pics...

Here's a short video of the end of Bell Rock Loop. This trail is really short but incredibly fun, easy climbs with loose babyhead descents, sweeping berms, chunk, and so on. Shot from Mitch's sled.

It was an awesome trip out. The riding was great, it nice to really get to play on some fresh terrain. I think the quote of Saturday's ride was from that chick in the bikini: "Highline is pretty good, but if you make a mistake, you'll die...."

Next time, I think I'll come out to ride every day. I'll edit some of my fav pics from the trip so they fit here and post them later. Thanks for coming out guys and thanks again for planning a perfectly timed ride. You missed an awesome dinner at OCB

:bang:

you've just explained why I stopped mtn biking when I came to San Diego (only really got back into it last year). After having all those trails at my disposal during college at NAU, it was difficult to adapt to the trails around here. At NAU I would take 2 classes in the morning, drive to Sedona in 40 minutes, ride for 2 hours, and be back for my afternoon & evening classes. The place is heaven on earth. If I didn't surf, I'd still live there.

Stoked for your good trip. That campground is nice; there's even some trout fishing in the creek. Can't wait to go back!
