Having gone two days without much rain, I decided to take advantage of the situation and went for a bike ride. As bike-friendly as Portland is, there, unfortunately, isn't much fun legal singletrack within the city. My new "backyard" trail, Scappoose, is only 30 minutes away, as opposed to the typical 45-60 min drive to other trails.

"Scappoose" is a maze of trails (similar to SCST) on private timber land. Armed with only my Garmin and my memory, I've been coming here every chance I can to learn the trails and put together a fun loop. After 5 trips, I think I am finally getting the hang of it.

Here are some pics from my cell phone.

Have you headed to Black Rock yet? The Mackenzie River trail is super fun, too - 27 miles of single track following the Mackenzie River from the Cascade crest to Eugene (a long haul from Portland, I know, but totally worth the trip + then you're almost to Bend!). Oh, or the MacDonald Forest in Corvallis. Some across the river east of Vancouver, too up toward Silverstar Mountain.

Thanks for the post though, makes me miss the northwest!
