I got the impression that this is a new trail and the locals are trying to keep it under the radar for now. We were specifically asked to avoid skidding, and its in very few of the trail guides yet. 406 had to use his cave man ninja skills to hunt it down, but when asked about it the guys at the shop admitted it is a sweet descent. So, I'm not gonna publish the name out of respect.

It was a little ways out of town. After the drive, 406 waits for us slackers to get ready

And it begins

We took a short detour to an overlook. the view was worth it

The makings of a TR

Snow capped volcanos in the distance

This log roll was more fun on the way back from the overlook

Brian and Deno have no problems on it. Riding uphill it was slick

Nice views opened up in spots

I love ridgetop trails

Flowers were out in bloom

It was hard not to look

Fast turns were plentiful

James was also loving the descent
Image

As with most of these shuttles it was over too soon

Fortunately there was a nice river at the end to cool off in

With a perfect swimming hole

Post subject:  Oregon Beer & Bikes - Rocks

I can’t remember which morning I was roaming around the campground, but everything was covered in moss. Sit still long enough and it might happen to you.

We actually got on the road before 8am after a good night sleep from drinking beer & soaking in the hot springs. Still after getting breakfast and driving to the trailhead, it was still 10am before wheels were rolling. So much for hitting the dirt early, but we seemingly couldn’t beat the vacation time clock. Not much was said about a trail I had seen on a map, but looking at the topo lines on the map it was a pretty big drop from the top. Our legs still weren’t ready for the 9 miles of climbing, so we used internal combustion means. Preview of the rock outcrop on the road up.

Image

At the 5,000’ trailhead, we quickly become mosquito bait before the bug repellant can be applied.

Image

Surprisingly we’ve had very little in the way of them the entire trip and nearly none at the campsites. We first head off to an overlook and the views don’t disappoint

Image

The patch work of trees is due to parcels of lumber harvesting. Evdog was in his element having formerly working in the British Columbia logging industry.

Deno checks out the panoramic view. Click here for a larger version http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr16 ... 2pano2.jpg

Then it was back to the trail

Image

Once it got going , it was an all out rip snorting riot

Image

Swithbacks were tight

Image

Image

And wild flowers going off

Image

Image

Image

Great views in meadows scattered about

Image

Image

Thankfully the guys up front weren’t witness to the spectacle in the back between 406, Evdog, and myself. Everytime we came to an open meadow with flowers we’d all stop, pull out cameras, and wait for someone else to go and be the photo subject.

This trail was a blast all the way to the end

Image

Image

This was a great 7 mile trail dropping some 500’ per mile.

All that was missing was Stang taking a picture of all of us waiting to take a picture
