I disagree on what I would call being far too "passive" on some issues while (what I would consider) concentrating too much on other issues.

I try to help certain members as much as possible and will continue to do so... which reminds me, I owe someone something.

I respect their purpose and recommend that if others are interested in being involved, they see what they can do to help but right now, isn't my bag.

I have been a member in the past but have not renewed membership.

That being said, every person with a mountain bike should (in some way or another) contribute to an advocacy effort.

Nope. One SDMBA person completely turned me off to the organization.

Are you a member of any political party? There hasn't been one of those created yet that didn't have at least one member that completely pissed me off. But that doesn't mean the entire party is like that, and does not mean I won't participate.

That said, I have held my long-term membership in a group hostage to try to influence change in the behavior of their leaders. Hence my witholding of membership dues to Friends of PQ canyon until their leader agrees to stop trying to prevent MTB access to Tunnels. I send them periodic reminders of why I'm not sending them money so that they understand that they control the terms that are keeping me out. I hope your reasons for witholding from SDMBA are as altruistic.

Sorry to hear one person has given you a bad impression, but there is a lot of great work going on by SDMBA people that is well worth supporting, which many have not heard about.

I actually dont like anyone in SDMBA ..... but I still go to help keep the wheels turning as far as the trails I like riding are concerned

That "trail" you like riding between your house and the burrito stand is called a sidewalk.


I don't disagree with you about SDMBA doing work well worth supporting - I don't want to see my favorite trails closed or have access limited, quite the opposite. Just haven't been able to get rid of the bitter taste left in my mouth. Eventually I probably will but it's going to take some time.

I'm curious what trails you think were closed or limited by SDMBA?

On the other hand I could give you a nice long list of trails that they've helped open, or improve.

I think you misunderstood what I posted - what I was trying to say is that I don't want to see trails closed or have access limited. I support efforts to keep trails open by SDMBA or others. I wasn't saying SDMBA has endeavored to close certain trails or limit access.

I was so stoked by the Arch ride that I became a SDMBA member a couple of days ago.
