I haven't found much info on the MTRP website, so I emailed Jeff from the city.

He said initial plans may call for the second workshop on the (March) 31st and that it would go on the website when this is determined.

Just a heads up, plan accordingly now. If the date changes, then it changes.

Would be nice to see a similar crowd as the first one.

Then the third (and final) should be further out, where we will have to stack it with people and raise hell because the previous two meetings were merely blowing smoke due to the decisions already being made prior to any meetings
(no really, I have confidence in the meeting leaders.)

Attached is the flyer for the March 31, 2011 MTRP Master Plan Update workshop; the 2nd workshop to be held for public input on the Master Plan update. The workshop will be held from 6 to 9 PM at the MTRP Visitor and Interpretive Center. A presentation will be held at 6:30 in the theater. Mapping and other information will be available for review in the adjacent meeting room anytime between 6 and9 to facilitate questions and input.

Please join us and be a part of planning the future of Mission Trails Regional Park. Also, if you would please forward the information to others you believe would be interested in attending.

The information is also available on the MTRP web site.

My apologies if you are receiving this more than once.

Thanks.

I would say show up at 6:00 to review what the City and their consultants have prepared. There will be "veterans" around to answer questions on what was proposed at the first meeting. You will then be better prepared when they start the presentation and Q&A at 6:30 to add your own comments.

Bimpity-bump.

Just out walking with the hound today at MTRP. If we could get 1/10th of the people involved who are out there on bikes, we'd have a winning community.

Thursday 3/31 6-9pm, hope everyone can make it.

The following is a link to the 2011/2012 future needs list as APPROVED by the CAC and MTRP task force, including indisputable funding information (just in case anyone should want to claim that they paid for it out of their own pocket (I wouldn't be surprised to hear that soon)

I'm there for sure and I posted it up on Gravity Pirates, so hopefully I can convince a few guys on there to show up as well.

How did last night's meeting go, I wanted to go but I have a cold and would be coughing all night.

There were plenty of trails options presented, almost too many that it was overwhelming first looking at the maps. New trails and re-routes of existing trails. They received the input that service roads are not trails and wanted a system that reflected that. They did a grade check analysis for sustainability and provided re-routes in the locations where the grades exceeded 15%. They also provided overlays of the sensitive biological areas. Based on what was presented, I see the west side of the park in Suycutt Wash, E-Ticket, Fortuna areas as the place were new trails and re-routes will be implemented first due to low biological value and the number of existing trails. Another cool proposal was a trail from Big Rock to Pyles and a re-route of the service road headed to Pyles. This would allow for a large loop from Big Rock up and over Cowles and Pyles. Spring/Oak (East Elliot) is dependent on the acquisition of a number of private parcels. In my opinion, the implementation of the master plan on that land is in the 10+ year range. The West Sycamore plot showed plenty of re-routes, loops and closed fire road. They definitely got the point we will not accept the existing service roads as trails. There were also three proposed locations for bike skills park. If 25% of what was proposed ever got implemented in would greatly improve the trail selection in the park. All maps are in the visitor's center through the weekend and will be available shortly on mtrp.org under the master plan section. SDMBA's Kim is getting information from KTUA on how people who were not able to attend would be able to comment and "vote" for their top 10 favorite improvements, as those in attendance did.

Thanks to all who came out.

There are people "involved" that want to make public opinion count. I honestly believe this. There are other involved that do not want public opinion or user groups to have a say in the matter. Dorothy made this quite clear last night when she said point blank "No usergroup representatives will be on the CAC"

I discussed this later, with other people involved and was told that while that may be the current scheme, that it isn't viewed as fair nor is it the long term goal.

I did all I could to keep my mouth shut but I just can't seem to sit idle while a few "good old girls/boys" continue to treat it like their own private Idaho. Getting representatives from each user group (bikers, climbers, hikers) will be key to more success but this could be a battle in itself.

For others who may have not been there, it was a great process, I thought. The initial meeting suggestions were mapped and displayed and a survey sheet was given to each attendee. The survey sheet had nearly each suggestion mapped and a "score" from "hate it" to "love it" and then you were asked to prioritize your top 10 suggestions/wishes for the park. Nearly all topics were there, from a bike skills park, to repaving the lake murray asphalt path to make it better for rollerbladers (really? rollerbladers.... hated it). I know in the initial meeting they said that stacking the audience with people wouldn't lead to much but the acutal process looks to not support this. Sure, they could be blowing smoke the entire time but the contractors had a " Bike skills park concept" graphic displayed and open to suggestions and on the survey there were 4 mentions of a skills park. 1. Current Deerfield improvements. 2. Tierrasanta side (where the dirt jumps appear time and time again) and 3. somewhere over by Cowles and 4. acquire new land.

The rough Bike skills park concept was on display for all to see.

I was fairly amused because Dorothy came over and talked to a few people when we were looking at the display of the skills park. I mentioned the picnic area and she mumbled something about "that will be changed" then followed up with "they are doing a lot of work down there". Me assuming she meant riders piped up with "that is a sense of community, pride in ownership, something we've been trying to sell" to which she responded "no, the contractors have been down there a lot". Then she closed it up with something along the lines of "I haven't been down there in a long time but I know they have"'

One of my greatest pleasure was that they did highlight a pedestrian/bike bridge to cross the river near the bottom of Jackson. This truly will benefit all users and I can see this happening sooner, rather than later.

Someone asked where the funding for improvements would come from, there was no real answer for this but the antenna fund was mentioned, CIP grants, etc.
