Anyways, I'm really bummed to hear this shit, even though I'm no longer local.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I talked to ranger Washington today, she was on her bike and riding around the entrance to Rockinghorse. We had a nice conversation and she is super nice however the content of our conversation was much less nice. She told me that the tunnels are officially history, the plan that was submitted was rejected, that new fences will be going up shortly and by mid November all trail access in that area will be officially closed and patrolled. I was stunned, she said whomever makes the final call on the matter made the call (some acronym i cannot remember) and that she is "just waiting for the call to shut it down" She said there is a chance that in the future tunnel 4 will somehow be reopened, but that everything else is for sure gone. my opinion is that this stinks, but know that the rest is not my opinion, it is exactly what she told us at about 9:15 this morning. Oh, and when i asked her about all of the hard work everyone has put in so far, access plans, en masse meeting turnouts etc... She very politely smiled and said that in the end it really had no effect on the decision, again i am just the messenger.

Damn the man trying to bring the mountain bike community down! Hopefully the heat won't be there for too long or some negotiations can take place with the acronym (who hides behind letter titles anyway...the KKK, KGB, CBS...)! This is not the end of tunnels I tell you! We must unite and fight! Maybe just find some new trail to ride until this blows over.

Me, QS and Sasquatch heard something quite different about 2 weeks ago form Ranger Washington. She said that the hole in the fence would be closed, obviously, and some of the extra loops on the canyon floor would be closed. But rocking horse, shoes, T5 would stay in some shape or form.

I hope things have not changed... but if they have.... ride them while you can!

I posted information on the MTC site, just now. Feel free to repeat it or to assimilate it and post your own conclusions.

Just got back from a ride in the tunnells and some of them are marked with corrosponding numbers markers at the entrance and a few of the insignificant trails down at the bottom have had brush thrown over them and are completely blocked. This is getting scary real quick.

I wonder if we get the media to put a little pressure on this that the "superior agency" will be a little softer on us.

Anyone know Larry Himel or Turko or someone who'll be MTB friendly?
