Meeting to show support for Deerfield BMX & Mtn Bike Park Proposal

Objective:
Gather community support for Deerfield Bike Park.

We are proposing to renovate, rehabilitate and improve the safety of the Deerfield BMX area at Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP). The goal is to work with the Rangers and within the guidelines of MTRP to have a progressive community bike park for both BMX and Mountain Bikes, suitable for ALL skill levels from beginner to advanced.

When:
Sunday October 5th, 3:00-4:00pm
Saturday October 11th, 10:00-11:00am

Where:
Deerfield BMX site, picnic area. MTRP.
Link for Directions http://www.mtrp.org/directions.asp?idno=22412

What:
We are looking for support from the community to proceed with this proposal. Come check out the site and talk to SDMBA members about the potential for a progressive community bike park. If you have time and/or skills to volunteer, we would love to have you join our Bike Park Committee.

Do you have experience in planning and design, building jumps/pump tracks, operating heavy equipment, irrigation, landscaping, fundraising, working as part of team to accomplish a community goal? If you do, we would love to meet you.

Why:
For the kids, for the parents, for the improvement of Mission Trails Regional Park; to improve the opportunities for kids of all ages to develop bike handling skills in a safe environment; to have fun outdoors.

Please forward this information to those who might be interested.

What do we do... just show up?

I really do have much to offer other than a (sorta) strong mexican back and a willingness to dig.

But I would love to help with getting a skills area in place.

SDMBA is working very hard on developing a Mountain Bike Skills and Progression Park in San Diego County. Three sites are currently under review. I was at the meeting last Saturday at the Deerfield site. There is great interest amongst the mountain bike community and the local residents and kids. SDMBA is dreaming big on this one (see Woodward Park in Fresno), however this currently isn't how the powers that be at the Deerfield site see it. The Deerfield site is a great natural site with many existing features that could be utilized. However, nothing is imminent.

That is sweet. Anything is a good thing for SD residents. SDMBA & others behind the scenes are doing a great job.

Is anything happening with this bike park? What do they want to build, some jumps and pump tracks? There are some crappy jumps there now. I saw a bunch of dirt. If they want to build nice new jumps, and have permission, why don't they build the jumps?

There is a thread here about it on MTBR, but it hasn't been updated in two weeks.

I just posted on MTBR, to see if Boulder Pilot had any updates.

I spoke with Jason on Saturday at the BB sale. He said that the plans that they proposed to the rangers were a little more than what the rangers had anticipated so they are trying to work some stuff out.

Wow, I feel like a tool for not getting over here sooner. sdmmondogg mentioned this site to me over a month ago. I didn't realize that this info was posted here.

All of you that are interested will not have to go check another site to get updated. I'll be posting here as soon as anything develops.

As has been posted here, and as mentioned in a phone conversation with luna this afternoon, the original concept for the site kept growing as SDMBA interviewed more of the riding community. What we(SDMBA) were initially authorized to build and what the riding community wanted to see built are two completely different concepts.

The two main obstacles right now are:

1.) The City wanting the first Bike Skills Park in southern California;
2.) Money

If this project was a private venture, a "Pay-to-Play" site where the City would receive tax revenue, it would be easier to sell. The fact is, this project will be built on ALL OF OUR LAND, BY US. I'm almost finished with the paperwork to submit to the City. There are a couple of meetings in November that we will be attending to push this project. As long as they have an open mind, I feel confident we can close the deal.

If any of you have fund raising experience, a trust fund, or made out like a bandit in the sub-prime swap trade, PM me.

We, this means all of you that want this and are willing to work for it, we can make this happen. Let's do this for us and the community. We deserve this.

Thanks for pushing this issue, BP. Would be really awesome if and when it happens. Any estimates on how much money would be involved to build the park?

Nice talking to you on the phone, I hope this happens for MTB in the city. Maybe we need to recruit the skatepark people, see how they always get money& places from the city.

Somebody give Tony Hawk a MTB quick.
