Thanks for caring to read about it...yeah, that's sappy sounding. Anyway, what we (ie all of us riding) really need is for a lot of folks to show up at this pending meeting, to calmly and firmly press the points that:

--we love and cherish the outdoors, habitat and animals as a resource in its own right and one that we want to preserve for ourselves and our kids, whenever they may arrive.

--we believe visitation and exploration of the outdoors and the last few remaining specks of open space is crucial for the development of our kids, for the quality of our adult lives and a validation of the entire Open Space program.

--we recognize that Deer Canyon may have too many trails, that it can be loved to death. But, we also realize and demand that this last chance for an engineered trails network in North City open space not be squandered -- that our City step up and recognize the desires of a massive community by establishing a unique trails park as proposed by the community of cyclists, runners and equestrians that support "this plan".

--chicken in every pot, 40 acres and a mule, bla bla :drunk:

Anyway, show up in your "I just came from work gear". Bring your kids of any age along, or just swipe some from the neighbors.

Between LPQ,Sycamore, & Daley Ranch those three are by far the busiest places I ride at. All three have bikers ,hikers, & equestrian I see, most of course is MTB'ers.

LPQ is central & perfect, I think that why it's so busy too.

I will do my best to be there & drag my little rugrat too, get him a shirt that says
"I want to ride here too in the future"

It was great to see some of you on trail, Saturday morning, as the CAC's Trails Committee walked portions of the Deer Canyon Tunnels! For all but one of our "non-cycling" members present, that was their first time seeing the trails and a rare opportunity for them to interact with cyclists on the trail. I'm sure it was good for them to see a broad spectrum of age, gender and gnar-gnar :) (I would remind you, brothers and sisters: if the hiker doesn't say "hi" first, or you're approaching from behind, SAY HELLO, even if you're terrified by our jiggling butts or scowling demeanor.)

We also hauled out a big pile of migrant-garbage. It's certainly easier to haul stuff out when on foot.

Reminder for This Thursday's PUBLIC HEARING on TRAILS ACCESS for the Tunnels: it's 6:00pm at the Canyonside Rec Center, and pro-trails community members are needed. Come demonstrate the number and variety of San Diegans that value Open Space and like to visit it on your bicycles. Come tell the Director of Open Space why you want to visit this area and how you support the proposal by the Multiuse Trails Coalition and SDMBA for a limited, sustainable and excellent trails system in this canyon.

Directions to Canyonside Rec are: here. Note that the time and location are different from that for the usual CAC meetings

Bump! This is this week and whomever has a chance to make it down should. Talked with dirt mogul on the trail today and he tossed the idea of everyone bringing a helmet to either wear or hold during the meeting to show our numbers. Those with extra helmets, promise your friend a beer (or a few depending on how drab the meeting turns out to be) to give us another body.

PM me if anyone wants to carpool. I can get 4 in my Jetta.

Dressing well is always better but I was thinking we should have some uniformity to show how of us there are.

Two more days, we need to fight for what we have left. Show up for support.

Admittedly I have never been to one of these or been involved, but what we have left we need to come together no matter what city you live in a fight for what little space we have.

I'm telling everyone on the trail today about it,LPQ is one of my favorite places to ride. I would like to keep it that way.

Thanks again to everyone keeping us up to date

I saw this from another site. Apparently, this e-mail has gone out from the LPQ CAC and it looks like they're squarely blaming MTB'ers. WTF? Looks like the chips are stacked up against us.

PUBLIC NOTICE
Carmel Mountain/Del Mar Mesa
Draft Resource Management Plan (RMP)
Public Workshop
Thursday, September 18
6 - 8 pm
Canyonside Recreation Center
(Canyonside Drive, west off of Black Mtn Road, just north of the creek)
View the draft plan:
http://www.sandiego .gov/planning/ mscp/index. shtml

This is an important hearing for all trail users. The draft management plan has recommended certain policies regulating use of current trails, establishment/ closing of current trails etc.
There are three main user groups;
hikers-walkers
equestrians( horse back riders
runners - mountain bikers.

Please look at the draft plan, online, at the above web address. Yes it is 450 pgs.,
so be selective
Of the three, the mountain bikers are the most vocal, demanding that all trails both legal and illegal be kept open and open to all users (i.e. themselves).
The net result would be less access for other users because bikes on narrow trails discourage use by slower moving foot and hoof users..
One issue that will come up is the recent system of illegal trails cut mainly ( in my opinion) by bikers in deer canyon labeled "the tunnels" by the bike community.
Regardless of your affiliation you should attend and make your views known.
