Paver berms in PQ. YEP, FOR REAL!!!

Many of you are familiar with "The Shitz" trail that comes down the east side of the duck pond in PQ. It used to be a curvy, flowy, fun trail. In the last couple seasons it has been blown out by folks charging straight down the hill. This project is going to bring back the berm lines.

In true Easter form, the trail will be resurrected. (Sorry, tasteless religious humor)

Oh, did I mention pavers?

Come on over this Saturday, March 31. There are two different shifts happening so there is a lot of flexibility. Even if you can't make the whole thing, part is still participating.

Note: This is a Boy Scout project on the same scope that got the bridge in Tunnels placed. It is not an SDMBA project. I will be there assisting but Matt (boyscout) is running the project.

Sign up here -->Boy Scout Eagle Berm Project

Meeting location: 6946 The Preserve Way San Diego CA 92130

We will be using trucks to get the pavers to the top of the trail and will have to hike them in from there.

Come be a part of history!

This is Matt. He is the Scout working towards his Eagle Scout rank and the one who researched, gained permission, researched, paid for, researched, organized, researched, and drove the volunteers today. If he wasn't only 17 years old, I would buy him a beer.

Thanks to both Matts for starting off this needed trail repair

A couple things jumped out at me when looking at the pictures.
1. Where were all the hikers and equestrians that use that area? Do they not help out?
(loaded question). Maybe when this work is completed we can move over to the hiker & pony only trails to give them some loving.
2. Thankfully but sadly, the old guard came out to help out. The main builders are older and need to have some young bloods to help & learn. I saw some news ones helping (thank you!) and it's a start but nowhere near what is needed.
Everyone likes new trails and to keep the ones that we have open but most never come out. Yes, we have lives and things come up but people need to carve out 2-3 hours every once in a while to lend a hand. This project should have had a lot of extra bodies to lug the pavers and water at the least. Sad to see such a small turn out.

Hopefully more people will come out on the upcoming build days to MSDGA

I apologize in advance for my snarkiness.

I agree in spirit if not delivery. Cough.. Sanctimonious much? cough... Acknowledging this was a Boy Scout Project I imagine the invite list to help out was appropriately selective.

Speaking of selective what's with the code: MSDGA? I almost wrote "BS Project" above and realized that might not convey what I meant.... According to my weak google-fu: MSDGA, Mat-Su Disc Golf Association. I won't be traveling to Alaska to help maintain a frolfing course. What trail work event are you referring to?

Awesome to see the Sh!Tz rehabbed. Kudos to the Scout that spearheaded the project and those who helped out!

Bit of tongue and cheek with the current administration's catch phrase.

Make San Diego Great Again

The Duck Pond trail project had next to no lead time and this was Easter Weekend so I did not anticipated a lot of participation.

That being said....

Next build day for the upper half that was not finished will be on Saturday, April 14 in two shifts. 8 am - 12 pm and 12 pm - 4 pm. This is a lot of advanced notice. I will post up the sign up link as soon as Matt (Boy Scout) creates his signup sheet. He is ordering a couple more pallets of stone that will need to be ferried out to the work site. We will break into a couple teams and relay the 60 lbs stones down the trail.

Hopefully we can get a larger turn out this time.

Cool, hopefully the enduro bro strava holes getting their gnar fix in LPQ can stay on the new trail.

That is what the build will be covering this next time. New plants and dead fall are in order.

Our scout has set up a go fund me page to help finance the project. To date he and his parents have paid for everything out of pocket and are looking for ways to help cover the costs. If you are interested, here is another way to get involved. Any amount will help.

Duck Pond Trail Project Go Fund Me

If you want to donate your time, April 14 is the day. Two shifts to choose from 8 - 12 and 12 - 4

Duck Pond Trail Work Sign-up

Again, this is not an SDMBA event, rather a BSA one. It is important for you to sign the enrollment form above if you are attending. He will need the logs as part of his rank achievement.

Thank you in advance for anything you can do.

Rode the mesa this morning for the first time in over a year. I quickly figured out why after meeting over 20 riders on T4 itself :x
Used to love the place but I'm not jazzed about riding it anytime soon. I like to ride for the enjoyment and having to wonder if your going to get hit at every corner doesn't thrill me

Cruzed up T1 to check out the newer orange netting (blends with the natural surrounding well  ) & closed off areas. Saw this sign below.
Please don't ride your bike here because it's sensitive habitat but you're good if you brought your earthmover or Cat to plow around on

Not that I ride there anymore but this is from Gina Washington this morning:

Good Morning,

All trails in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve are closed until the California Department of Fish & Wildlife inform us otherwise due to a mountain lion attack that happened yesterday afternoon.

I had planned to mtb to work today through the canyon, but figured they might be serious about the closure. Didn't want dfg to accidentally shooting a mtb'er.
