Seems like Calavera is getting way more popular. I don't want to stir up the trail issues now, but I have two requests that are easy & painless and can help head off trouble.

1. Respect the apartment dwellers. Keep your voices & radio/music low when parked in front of the apartments. We want to get up early & ride. Maybe they work nights or want to sleep in. Loading up today after riding, another MTBer had the surf report cranked up to PA level. I'm sure the whole block could hear.

2. Pick up a little trash on your way back. Or pick up a little at the parking spot. I usually pick up the cigarette packs & cheap beer cans and drop them in the trash can at the end of the block. Figure the neighbors might appreciate a MTBer obviously picking up someone else's trash.

Not trying to give a do-gooder lecture here. I just don't want to roll up one day and find "No Parking" signs. It could happen sooner and is more easily enforced than a lot of other potential clampdowns. I just want to ride.

Great ideas Dan. Only problem I see with it is regarding the mtb/surfer dude. I was watching a Ron White comedy skit last night with my girl and what he said applies here "You can't fix stupid".

I'll pick up some trash next time I'm there.

This can and will happen if people get pissed off. I'm surprised it hasn't happened at La Costa yet...

It happened at one of the popular spots at home. A couple vocal (and anti-bike) residents complained and the city installed residents only parking on 4-5 streets closest to the trailhead. This pushed parking for all trail users about 4 blocks down the hill, and incidentally just moved the same problem further down. It was the same complaints - loud radios, loud voices, blocking traffic, people changing, urinating at roadside, etc that you might see anywhere. Most people were good but a few bad examples screwed everyone over.

So if you see any of these things please tell the people to stop whatever it is. They may ignore you but at lease ignorance is no longer an excuse for them.

Good points Dan. The same should be said about parking off Strata on the Carlsbad side. You think apartment dwellers can be vocal, try pissing off someone who paid $700K to live next to a preserve. Forget the fact that their house was built on top of an existing trail network.

There are some similarities, but, nah, I changed it to one of my favorite writers, Ed Abbey, in conjunction with another thread about itards.
