Just this week, the Governor announced a new proposal to eliminate state funding for our state park system – which will close more than 80% of the 279-unit state park system. In the San Diego area alone the closures will affect major park lands including both parks and state beaches: Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Cuyamaca Rancho SP, Palomar SP, Silver Strand SB, San Pasqual Battlefield, Torrey Pines SP and SB, and Carlsbad SB. You can submit an online petition to keep the state park system open to the Governator and your state representatives here.

I am very curious as to what "closed" means.

I know that it means lay off the workers.

Does it also mean they are going to post "off limits" signs?

I feel for the workers and can say from the "not good side" of the cuts, that (to put it lightly) we are fucked right now as a state.

If the parks "close" and the trails stay "open but off limits to bikes" .... one would wonder, who would be driving the chase vehicle?

Pulling funding I would think they would just be no longer maintaining what they do (trash, restrooms, etc) that would be retarded of them to post off limit signs. They probably will so that if someone got hurt in there they would say that you werent supposed to be there so they dont get sued lol

Maybe the budget crisis will refocus the California Department of Fish & Game back to their original mission of managing fishing and hunting resources, instead of trail access.

He already cut the salaries of State employees by over 9% and gave us all mandatory furlough days. C-bad, Torrey and Strand all make $ off parking fees. Closing them would accomplish what exactly?

Sounds odd...

Unfortunately, the money that those parking lots bring in do not cover their operating budget. While it will end a nice income stream, the money saved by closing the facilities is worth it (fiscal terms only).

Now if you factor in the cost of potential vandalism, degradation, and wear from lack of up keep, the savings may be wiped out. It just depends on the public's attitude towards public facilities. Look how well we treat them when they are staffed....

Thanks for the link. SDMBA sent me an "alert" with a link, but it only opens up the SignOn SD Article, not to the petition.

Sorry that the link on the email doesn't open to the correct web address. The problem can be solved by copying and pasting the web address shown in the TrailNews to your browser window. That's the "classic" solution to a link that doesn't work.
