The Bridge over Lake Hodges is very close to complete. There is a flimsy fence that people are moving aside after the construction guys clear out for the day. I saw dog walking residents move the fence not me. I rolled onto it about half way, it will be nice to connect the south part in Rancho Bernardo, with the Escondido north end, I think I could make about a twenty plus mi. ride between the two.
Also the whole ridding trail system on the north side has been homogenized, I guess for the expected increace in trail traffic when the bridges opens, and a whole buncha new post and barbed wire fences have been put up. It's still fun but not like it used to be. Isn't sad that when the city or county improves the trail systems, the singletrack dissappears. And we wish for the way it used to be.
I rode out there Monday evening getting back to the parking area at just around dark, and let me tell ya, the bugs were out in force, at times it sounded like rain was hitting my helmet.

I can't wait to try jumping the "points" on the bridge. I live nearly within sight of the bridge and I've been watching it get built for the last, well, seems like forever. I have pics of it from early last year when they were just getting the foundations poured. Anyway, it will be nice when it's opened I guess, just wish there were more fun trails on the north side of hodges than there are now, ya know?

I don't think it's barbed wire. Most of the fencing in SDRP is actually just bailing wire (no barbs). It is effective without the potential for serious injuries. Just thought I'd throw that out there :)

I called SDRP a couple weeks ago because the bridge was supposed to be open March 16. They said they hope to have it open in April and have a grand opening ceremony sometime in early May (who cares about that though - just open the damn thing).

I never rode the single track on the North side, but was hoping to do that and connect to the south later this spring. Apparently we have angered the SD trail gods because they keep fu*$ing up all of our trail access.

I'll snap a pic of the barbed wire. It is at the creek crossing just as you drop down out of the trail that runs behind the back yards. It used to be a nice place to stop and enjoy the view of the creek, and the mini palm canyon like area. But I guess the improvment, inhances, the area. I think we (all trail users) are being herded, mostly because of the projected increase in traffic due to the bridge.

On my drive home from work last night I saw about 7-10 people walking and riding bikes across the new bridge. Anyone know if its open yet officially or did I just witness a mass act of civil disobedience in broad daylight?

When I called they said it would be open in April - so hopefully it is!

Does anyone know if you will be able to cross the bridge at night?
