The San Diego Mountain Biking Association Board of Directors apologizes for the absence of our voting member at this week’s critical CAC meeting at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. The absence was inexcusable and we were shocked and upset by this occurrence. Unfortunately, our deep regret cannot make up for the error. We must regroup and move forward.

Our Board of Directors has demanded the resignation of our representative on the CAC.

Rob Mikuteit will become the new SDMBA representative and Minette Ozaki will be the designated alternate. As you know, Rob has a deep understanding of the issues, and has long been involved as a participating member of the trails community. He is passionate about preserving multi-use trails in Los Penasquitos, Carmel Mountain and Del Mar Mesa. We look forward to a stronger focus for SDMBA at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve.

In addition to appointing Rob to the CAC seat, Michael MacGregor will be stepping in as the new SDMBA liaison to Los Penasquitos Canyon. He will be organizing our trailwork efforts and coordinating with Ranger Gina Washington to respond to issues on the ground. Michael MacGregor is a SDMBA Board Member, the Chairman of our Trail Builders and Maintenance Committee and he lives near Los Penasquitos Canyon.

We pledge to increase our effort and action toward improving access for all trail users.
We look forward to working together with you and these new representatives to forge a renewed leadership in the trails advocacy community.

Sincerely,

San Diego Mountain Biking Association Board of Directors.

One question: WHY did Mike not show? Was he paid off? I know that between the likes of Clews and Gerst, et al, there's plenty of loose change floatin' around.

Apology accepted, but still, ENQUIRING MINDS WANNA KNOW!

Big props to Rob for stepping up and taking on a very difficult position in a very dysfunctional committee. Thank you!

As for why the SDMBA CAC rep did not attend the meeting, it is my understanding that he simply forgot. An unintentional oversight at the most unfortunate of times.

Thanks for letting us know the reason for this ball being dropped. I agree that a change in representation is called for in this situation, and I'm glad you are taking action.

Thanks Rob!

It's my understanding Rob has been working his tail off behind the scenes on the Tunnels project. He's also the one, I believe, that GPS'd all the trails, mapped 'em out and overlaid the sensitive areas to come up with one of the maps we saw presented at the Sept, LPQ public access meeting.

We're lucky to have such a strong, experienced advocate in our corner.

On the down side, he's not sneaky enough to offset Marvin's mastery of Joseph Goebbels propaganda warfare.

Maybe, given time.

EDIT:
I believe Minette also gave a compelling speach during the LPQ public access gala last Sept. Great one-two punch between Minette and Rob.

Thanks again, to both!

Rob is a braver man than I to step into this mess. Chapeau, mate.

I don't know Mike, but I'm guessing he feels like crap for letting folks down. It's pretty easy to criticize people on a forum, and sometimes people forget that the "volunteers" aren't just the trail workers -- the SDMBA people are volunteers too. And it's a huge commitment to become a board member or liaison. I feel like apologizing myself for not going to that meeting to support Erik Basil (now there's a local hero...look at the effort he puts in). As much time as I spend on the forums, I missed the notice of what seemed to be a moving meeting target until that day, and already had tickets to the Banff film fest with the family, an annual tradition. Not a good enuf excuse for an "official" SDMBA rep, but that's why I'm not one. Work & family are pretty committing already. Yeah, Mike blew it, but now Rob's stepping up, and I hope he and the others can make a difference. I do know him and Erik a little bit at least, and I want to thank them (and Minette et al) in advance for their commitment and work for our eventual benefit. I'll try to get to more meetings in support, I hope others will too.

So was there anyone else from SDMBA there that had Mikes # to try to figure out why he wasn't there, in case he forgot, someone could call him to get down there quickly to vote.
