Sent from the Ranger today: Good Morning, I am sure there are a lot of questions today about what trails are now open and what are still closed. OPEN Black Mountain Open Space and surrounding trails Carmel Mountain Preserve Gonzales Canyon CLOSED All parking lots and street parking around trails. The County wide stay at home order is still in effect, so if you can walk or ride your bike to the trail, you can use it. Del Mar Mesa Preserve - we will be inspecting the area to see how we can avoid the overflowing pools and perhaps make some one way trails to aid in social distancing Los Peñasquitos Canyon - bridges are out and there is still quite a bit of flooding, looking toward the weekend for possible partial opening, that’s the goal We really appreciate your continued patience. Remember social distancing, face coverings are highly recommended. Gina Washington Senior Park Ranger |

It is really only City of SD that opened trails and open spaces. I'm not aware that any other land managers or Cities have modified their closures. Still a pleasant surprise to hear this last night! https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/ ... status.pdf Exceptions, still closed are: Cowles Mtn (due to likely crowding) and LPQ "Canyon areas that are flooded" Notable openings: Black Mtn, Tecolote, Marian Bear/Rose Canyon, West Sycamore Del Mar Mesa open space is listed as open. The list doesn't actually doesn't include Mission Trails as an open space but I'd assume the trails there are open. |

Not sure how many people ever get up that way to ride but Riverside County is supposed to come out with a statement later today or tomorrow regarding the status of their closures. With excellent weather on the way and not much else open, you can expect Black Mountain to be crowded this weekend. |

k2rider wrote: you can expect Black Mountain to be crowded this weekend. Yep! This worries me since that is why they closed it down in the first place. I rode twice that first weekend and nobody changed their habits due to the virus. The rangers are great people and easy to work with BUT they will be keeping their eyes open on people in large groups not social distancing (man, I friggin hate those two words) It's got a lot of smaller ST trails and you will have close contact. Hopefully everyone will ride with bells on and people spread out over the mountain. I know the the trails on miners are pretty blown out after the rains so please be careful also. |

I'm lucky that I can ride on weekdays....as long as I can get motivated...and Black Mountain doesn't do it for me. I used to live right at the base and rode it twice a week for years. Once I started traveling out of state and then found places like Greer Ranch locally, I just can't force myself to ride Black Mountain more than once a year. Speaking of Greer, even when it's packed, the only place you see people is at the top of climbs. If you keep moving at the top, you can ride almost all day w/o worrying about touching somebody. X Trails up by Intense is also ALWAYS empty as the climbing section is more than most people want to endure I guess. |

Keep groups small or better ride solo. Let's not be our own worst enemy like we too often seem to be. |

You're spoiled by all those great trips you take I live right at Blk mt and really enjoy the new stuff on east ridge. I personally think it's the best legal riding close to here. I'm done with LPQ/mesa area. Hate all the drama and crowds. Like Laguna area but that's a bit far for a quick ride |

I still like Black Mtn as an after work ride. Trails are fun, there's enough to do 2 evenings without a ton of overlap, and nice views at sunset. Not many people out at that time either. Same with LPQ, minus the views. I seldom ride anywhere in SD on a weekend if I have a full day or more to go further away. |

My son & I rode Black Mt tonight and it was pretty busy for a week night. This Saturday might be a shit show if people flock in large groups. The folks that were up there were so stoked to finally get out on the mountain. Be careful, ride in small groups or solo and stay outta everyone's way and you should be fine All trailheads/parking areas are still closed so you have to ride in |
