Here are the concept ideas that were presented for comment during the workshop for Veterans Memorial Park. During the workshop there were 4 stations where people could provide feedback on each Category. From that the city is going to go back and work on refinements to the design. In the meantime, they are still accepting comments through the City site http://www.carlsbadca.gov/cityhall/input.asp.

I arrived late as I went for a ride before attending, but other members were there for the duration and mentioned the "Active Zones" especially biking were quite contentious (hopefully someone will provide more details on what this means).

The few important things that the City heard/noted, is there is a need for some sort of bike activity (my impression is they are yet unclear on what that really is, FAMILY PUMP TRACK was mentioned). Proximity of Kids Zone and Active Use Zones is important. User Conflict is a real thing and should be designed to avoid if possible. Noise near the houses on the North end of the property is concern. We pointed out how the Terrace design would create and Awesome Jump line!! Which is a BAD idea for a multi-use trail..

With that said, most comments I heard related that the "Hillside" idea looked better. However, in some after discussion, one staffer (I think the concept designer) mentioned that there may be thought to keep the Active Zone where it is in the "Terrace" map, but relocate the Kid Zone to be near the active zone. I comment on how that may not make for the best option for trail network compared to the location on the Hillside map.

Again, these were only CONCEPT for input, not FINAL designs.
