I think this will be for the best.

Seems like SDMBA has really stepped up advocacy efforts locally of late.

Always have been advocating. Just seeing years of labor starting to produce fruit. It is a never ending process.

The break was about ideology and ROI. Both were not meeting the needs of San Diego.

SDMBA Membership Enrollment

I forgot to add this on Monday. There was some confusion in the beginning. Follow the link above to join if you want your dues to remain locally. Lots of options to join. Hopefully this is the start of a new chapter for lots of estranged riders out there. Hope to see you soon.

With all the changes, I have been holding off as my expiration date is today.

So I go to look at both SDMBA and IMBA. It appears this split may not be isolated to San Diego. On the IMBA site it they have the following statement on their Renewal page.

Membership primarily resides with local mountain bike organizations, which are responsible for the construction and maintenance of your backyard trails, local rides and festivals, and opportunities to volunteer. For 30 years, mountain bikers have furthered great riding in their communities by joining their local groups. We encourage you to find and support the mountain bike organization nearest you. If there isn’t one, you may become an at-large IMBA member.

IMBA is a national org where we are local. We chose to divest our interests because there was zero return locally for the money invested with IMBA. They lost several large sponsors and choose to eliminate regional managers. We were completely on our own in the west with zero IMBA representation, yet 60 percent of our dues were being kept to remain a chapter member. There was a large imbalance in the ownership of lands in the west compared to the east where IMBA is based. Nationally, land issues are not the same as regionally and that was being woefully ignored on their part.

I don't think anybody is anti-IMBA as there is always a need to have a national presence. Now, all money invested in SDMBA 100 percent reflects San Diego's needs and interests. You get a larger say in how the money is invested.

We have a lot of members who have chosen to support both. Now it is just two different organizations with similar and different goals.
