If you know him or see him.....

Image

Please contact the rangers in PQ @ (858) 538-8066. There have been multiple full sized trees cut out of the trail. It is bad......

I will be starting out at the Camino Ruiz trail on Friday 2/23 at 8 am to do what we can to repair the damage. I can use any help willing to show. Swag for those that do. I will supply the tools too.

Here is the original FB post. Bravo to Mike Clinch for documenting this.

Matt, I would try to make it but I just finished coughing up the last of the arsenic dust from Saturday, and somehow threw out my back sleeping last night.

Or I may just have to work.

Shouldn't be too hard to spot with that bike. Probably lives in MiraMesa and rides down/up to get to the canyon.

What a prick. Imagine the character of the trail has been destroyed. Now ‘just another trail’? No more needle to thread?

Maybe put that guy's picture on a flyer describing the incident and post a few copies around the area? I've seen that done in a place where someone was stealing game cameras, where one of those he didn't steal got his picture.

I'm 6 hours west of that area now plus I can barely walk so I'll not be joining you.
Hopefully others can assist in any clean up.
Thank you

Working on cleaning up what we could on the Camino Ruiz Trail. Entire trees were cut down by an individual who felt the trail would be better with them gone. Never mind the trail was designed by users and city staff to incorporate the native vegetation to create character.

A few have defended the damage stating the response was overblown and it was "just a few branches". It was neither of these things. Anybody can do trailwork BUT you have to have the Ranger's permission prior to ANY work on a city trail. Ignorance cannot be tolerated. Learn to conquer the challenge of a trail rather than modify it to fit your ability. It is what a learning curve is all about.

Shout out to Bicycle Warehouse. Robb Riggle from the Encinitas store and Robyn Blackfelner of the PB store took time to show up and put in time. I love when we see local representation. Mark Yt bought more donuts than anyone could ever eat (My son thanks you!)

All told, there were 6 complete trees destroyed and another 4 or 5 heavily damaged. I know I am preaching to the choir but trail work cannot happen on a legal trail without express consent for the specific activity. Just because you know how to do it (not this case), attended prior events, or have the tools does not mean you have the right....
