A recent issue of Dirt Rag had a good writeup by a local author and blogger about the MBAU and recent access developments there. It gives hope for opening additional existing backcountry trails to bikes in the future, which would allow for some nice loop rides of moderate length. Hope this comes to pass before I'm too damn old to ride them.

Cool. Didn't realize the advocacy effort had been going on there for so long. Kudos to those with the vision and stubbornness (I mean that in a good way) to keep fighting.
Helped out on a couple of the work days on the Cold Spring Trail; still need to get up there and put tires to dirt. Need to get out there this fall for a long XC loop.

MTB Bill just did a write up on that Cold Springs reroute on his website (thanks Bill!). I had planned to ride it weekend before last with my grandson, but he wasn't buying it that day. Bill liked it:

I love the new cold springs trail. My favorite long XC loop up there now:

Sweetwater staging area -> West side Trail -> Cold Spring -> Up Stonewall fire road -> Down Soapstone ->Up LaCima -> Lucky 5 out and back -> rest of La Cima around counter clockwise -> Stonewall -> Cold Spring -> East side trail -> School camp -> West side trail -> Sweetwater.
