Hi all, this may sound like a weird question and I hope that I am posting it in the right area. Are the hours at Elfin Forest Reserve enforced? I looked at the website and it states they open at 8am. Does that mean the parking lot opens at 8am or does it also mean no trail access before 8am? I live really close to Elfin Forest and I have been wanting to do some riding in the area. However, I have three kids and if I don't get on the trail by 6:30am on the weekends...I probably won't get a chance to ride. So if I were to park along the street and start riding the trails around 6-6:30am am I going to run into problems? Thanks!

The parking lots are gated, so you'd definitely need to park elsewhere. I'd say the official answer is stay out. But you might give it a try and be really polite if accosted by a ranger. My experience with those rangers is that they are nice folks. But since you live nearby, you could stop in and indirectly ask a ranger who is by him or herself and looks to be in a good mood...

We have parked outside the gates
in the past. Can't remember exactly
where. The Rangers aren't going to
be there early.

They get there at opening.
They get paid by the hour!

I'm sure ODD is technically correct as I'm sure it's something about "quiet time for the animals" but I'd agree with Clyde that there won't be anybody there until it's time to open the gates.

Well, did I have to say "wink, wink, nudge, nudge"? Read between the lines. But if you want to be technical:

"The Reserve opens each day at 8:00 a.m. The Reserve is closed on days affected by rain or inclement weather, and on December 25.
Please check the main entrance signs for current closing time. Closing time is approximately 30-45 minutes before sunset. Parking lot gates are locked at closing time. Use of the Reserve outside of posted hours is considered trespassing P.C. 602."

If you live very close, skip the car altogether and just ride. You might even consider a non-standard approach route. But gosh, I would never suggest breaking the rules...

Thanks for the replies! I figured the official rule would be to stay out before 8am. I definitely don't want to break any rules...
