Seemed like I was seeing fresh flagging tape at trail intersections today, a new round of fences?

Hmmm, more flags today 3 leading up to the pad, another 2 on north side. Several lame attempts at brushing and some nice vehicle tracks cuz its OK to drive thru sensitive habitat(both sides of road) but decades old trails are destructive.

The last time they fenced it was on a Sandag/Transnet(Caltrans) grant which they CEQA exempted themselves from and I don't think they had proper NED approval, cannot find anything this time(but they've made it harder to search also (transparency don'tcha know). Nothing on Preserve Calavera or CNLM sites either. If anyone sees any fencing construction immediately report it to both Sandag and Ceqa offices as illegal building to get their attention.

I noticed some last night and many appear at intersections. I'm hoping it's some sort of running race or secret bike race markers.

Let them put the fences up. I know a few night walkers... That shit will be gone in less than 24hrs. "No trespassing" signs included.

You probably saw this in the local paper recently. If not, FYI the City will be removing a non-native palm grove, and adding a restroom by the dam this fall.

Message from SDMBA:

"Please share!
ATTENTION Calavera Riders!

The city of Carlsbad is planning some improvements at the Lake Calavera Preserve this fall. There will be a community information meeting on July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Calavera Community Center, 2997 Glasgow, Carlsbad.

At the meeting, city and project staff will discuss what’s being done, why it is being done, how the palms will be removed, what to expect during construction (trail closures, etc) and will answer questions from the community. While these initial improvements are not focused on trails specifically, we need to make sure that mountain bikers are involved in this process so that when trail improvements are proposed, we are invited to the table.

SDMBA is currently seeking a Carlsbad resident or someone who rides Calavera frequently to become a Trail Liaison for the area so we make sure that the concerns and trail needs of mountain bikers are heard by the City of Carlsbad. If you are interested, please contact executivedirector (at) SDMBA.com"

Well, a bathroom is probably a long overdue addition....let's start a pool on how long it takes for it to be vandalized/tagged with graffiti. I say it doesn't make it thru the 1st weekend.

It could be funded by a craft brewery on site

Today's email from the City says 6PM not 7PM. Not sure which is right. If you're going you might want to call and confirm.

Been seeing activity on the back 40 area lately, survey sticks, rock marking maybe archaeologic surveys. Went to the developer website, looks like the whole project was re-scoped and is in the process of being sold since April to a new builder.

Thanks for the link^^. It seems as if the money is a problem, and with so many pockets to pick, hopefully nobody will be willing to take it on as the lead builder anytime soon. Building College Blvd. through to Ocean Hills is gonna cost a huge amount of money, and require extensive mitigation. That riparian area is prime habitat. Aren't there some endangered toads or frogs there, some gnatcatchers, least bells vireo? "Critters" may be the best thread after all. Calling Diane Nygaard/Preserve Calavera...
