Agreed, but for now, I do believe we stand a better chance with SDMBA no longer involved. There was to much history of failure, aggravation of opposing parties, etc.

All the researching I have done has said we MUST get buy in from the conservation groups for this to really happen. When anything goes to the CFG Commission it goes for public comment. If there is opposition it won't pass. The first goal is to get buy in from the conservation groups to the point that the just don't oppose, they don't need to support, but not opposing is a win.

If we were to go now we have low confidence it would pass due to history of conflict between SDMBA and the conservation groups. Now that they are officially no longer involved we can begin to discuss with more of those groups.

The San Diego Mountain Biking Association (SDMBA) has been searching for a local group of riders to take lead or be actively engaged with Carlsbad Highlands Ecological Reserve (CHER) for a long time. Several months ago, the Calavera Cyclists Coalition/Calavera Trails Coalition stepped forward requesting to get involved. SDMBA and the community were thrilled.

Since then, there has been tension regarding who was taking charge. In an effort of unity and your stated desire to fully control and assume all authority over CHER advocacy issues, the SDMBA Board will direct all control over to the Calavera Cyclists Coalition/Calavera Trails Coalition.

If we receive any communications or questions regarding progress on CHER we will direct them to your email address.

Regarding your comments on developers, SDMBA will release a public statement shortly.

FYI, we got reports of a possible homeless encampment someplace near the bottom of the hill, near the creek below the gas main.

We have reported this to CDFW and Carlsbad Homeless Outreach.

If you have any further info, let us know or if you see enforcement it is hopefully looking for them.

I suggest we form a group of riders to patrol the area and watch out for illegal activity.
Call the group something like Dirttreaders.

I was going to do the back 40 alone was heading up that direction past the creek saw two riders go up the middle came back I went up the middle didn’t see anybody this morning. right now I’m heading over to gas fenced in area. There are two riders on top of the water tank.

I know I haven't seen many of you much lately. I've been travelling quite a bit for work and working some weekends.

I have NO real update at the moment on Calavera. We are trying to get a meeting with higher levels of CDFW, but for now, the goal is to keep things low key and off their Radar.

Government action is extremely slow and for CDFW they don't have any motivation to do anything, to them status quo is fine.

For other action, our team could use some additional committed (committable) people. What I'd like to have on the team is a person dedicated to Carlsbad Parks/Rec communication and someone dedicated to Oceanside Parks/Rec communication.

To actually make things happen it would be a full time job for someone to be in constant contact with all these agencies, but you all don't pay me enough!!!!!! So more people doing small junks can make bigger progress.

I wanted to post an update. Our team had a great meeting with Diane Nygaard and one of her team, yesterday.

In our opinion it was a Very Successful meeting as they voiced no opposition to our ideas for a Pilot program that would allow bikes while studying the impacts, etc. We also discussed maps which we have previously shown that include closure of up to 40% of trails (mostly connector trails and redundant) They felt that number was to ambitious!!!!!

Our next steps are getting a meeting with CDFW to discuss development of a plan/pilot program (They are incredibly slow to do anything). Work with the City to try and have some trail days to work on Monkey Flower and Serpentine. Work with Preserve Calavera on an Invasive Species removal day (plants not Urban Yeti).
