Thanks for posting this JAM.

Let's just set this straight, if a trail 4' wide or more, covered in DG or gravel, it is not a trail... It's a fired road.

I could care less about what occurs with the rest of the city land, I care about calavera. What this proposes would put an end to much of the actual existing trail systems we enjoy.

Fuck the city, fuck their plan. This is bullshit. I don't give a shit about a fire road that can get me to hosp, I can get their already on single track. Time to move to a state that actually has their shit together.

Rant over, anyone want to cut down some wire fences?

It was tried recently. DFW shut us down on 3 separate occasions.

One thing to be aware of in the plan is a paved path connecting Cannon.

This is something to push back against, IMHO.

I asked CNLM a few times about Flight Line. Was given a bunch of lame excuses...

"Paved path" = Discovery Hills = Tripe Trails.

I noticed that there was some language about preserving some of the remnants of Flightline. I think the Cannon road extension through Calavera is already on the books. I heard it is tied up in litigation with the enviros. Ride it while you can!

^^^ Yes, the Cannon Rd extension will forever be on the books, but this plan does say it is "no longer supported". We have the enviros to thank for that. And for the fact that Calavera open space exists at all. But it's apparent that from the traditional trail planning perspective bikes are primarily seen as an alternative mode of transportation. I was actually encouraged by the acceptance of mountain biking as a trail need. I despise the 4' DG paths as much as anyone, but if you read the descriptions of Type 1 nature trails it allows for challenging single track, and they recommend negotiating to keep some. And for putting some back at Flightline. We need to push for more Type 1. And ride all we can where we can in the meantime.
