If you don't already know, there is a city sponsored, official ribbon cutting on Saturday, March 28, 11:30 am located at the gliderport parking lot. You should attend and show the city your support and what and organized group of mountain bikers are capable of. Think of it as good will ambassadorship.

Today, 6 of us - Ranger Ed, Mike, Kevin, Rich, Rod, and I worked to finish off the switch backs beneath the Carmel Valley bridge.
Image
The berms were originally built with no moisture so they were in desperate need of fixing.

There were only four to fix. I had moved several loads of rock down to the trail the week earlier...
Image
...and Rich lined them up. All we had to do was dig them in. Ed brought in 200 gallons of water, a hose, and a pump. It will make all the difference in long term wear.

Setting the rock in place

The finished product

While scouting around, Rich found a table sized rock that would end up being the signature entrance to the trail. We wrestled it onto the road but it was difficult to move. In the process, we met a new rider to the area, Jeff. Although not pictured, he was a big help.
Image

Using the winch on the truck we moved it close to position and then man-handled it into position.

Image

After all four turns were done, we watered everything down to help it set up much better...
Image

...and used the rest of the water to help the spring flowers stay lush for a few more weeks. POPPIES!!!!
Image

and unknown purple flowers.
Image

Enjoy the greenery while it lasts. It will start to brown up soon enough.

One last look at the entrance to the trail. I promise you can't miss it.

I saw your announcement to come work on this, but I also saw the word "rocks". My foot is still hurting after dropping a rock on it last December while working on Lilac. I'll let the stronger backs and hands work on the rocks, and I'll stick to moving dirt.

Good work everyone!

When you have to move it with a winch, it's not a rock

Also, not too sure about that stronger back stuff right now....

Sorry....I did'nt know about the trail work today, or I would have come out.
Thanks again to the Usual Suspects, though, for doing it. One of these days I'm gonna ride up there from the Sorrento Valley side of LPQ and check the trail out.
It was a good feeling working on it the previous work day, with about 100 other fellow enthusiasts.
It looked pretty good already back then. It must be fantastic now.

Ray - My apologies.

I have an email list I use for the smaller events. If you want to be part of that list, I will happily add you (anyone else who is interested too). Just PM me your email and you will be added. It is just for goings on at Black Mountain and is not shared with anyone.
