If one dares, the Carrizo Gorge Railway "ride" is MOST excellent after rain. Especially the 2nd section (desert run thru the wind turbines to Ocotillo).

At the risk of complicating the calculus, you need to factor in the amount of rain and the time since the previous rain. It's my experience that MTRP and Fanita are often good to go within a couple days as long as you're careful with your line selection on the fireroads used to get to the singletrack.

LaCosta has been my after the rain ride. Mission trails used to be you just had to watch out for the meadow getting under the bridge and a big creek crossing. I haven’t ridden MTRP in over 10 years thanks for the reminder.

Calavera can be a 2 or even a 1 if it was a light rain and had been a while since it rained. Also due to the vast changes in soil type in different sections of that riding area can mean vastly different times.

The best judge is to visibly inspect the trail, if you are gonna leave deep marks that will be there next august, then it is best to turn around.

I just wish the large number of trail runners would take any sort of consideration, the fireroad around lake calavera tends to be all foot print divits after a rain like we had.
