A letter from RJ:

"Dear Friends
As if we don't have enough fires to put out,LITERALLY!!!! Not to mention the fires have burned what little open space we have. Now a really good stretch of single track could be lost and made into a fireroad, Red Tail Roost. Honestly, it is hard enough to get any trails built in SoCal because everyone wants to preserve habitat and here they want to make a single track a service road! Mark our rep in the Lagunas has turned us on to this and we need to help stop this bad move or at least get some mitigation built into the plan. See his plea below.

Thanks as always Rich"

This does suck as the location of the affected trail runs through a nice oak forest. Its not the end of the world if this goes ahead, but its just one more in a series of many losses recently. In comments we should push them to build a replacement section of singletrack or locate this new road away from the trail.

Good news, the Forest Service has released its Draft Decision on this project, and has agreed to replace the Red Tailed Roost singletrack turned into road with a new segment of singletrack. See link for details.

Project page: http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsint ... ject=38745

Draft Decision Document - see page 4 for map:

Thanks to everyone who commented. Hopefully we can help lay out and build this new trail segment to make sure it is fun.

Its not a total done deal yet pending objections from any parties who commented, but most of those wrote to support the replacement singletrack so there shouldn't be any issues.
