What in the FUCK is going on in here? Who he is and his past means jack shit!

If anyone happens to see a person doing less than normal work on a trail (ANY TRAIL), stop and handle your business with them. Make that person SO damn uncomfortable about their actions that they pack up, move on, and never come back. If he goes the other way on you, stand up for something and kick the ever living shit out of a man. Grow some balls about the matter. Send a message.

-get a ranger
-google his dating/psychological profile
-make teote uphill...

Ask yourself, "What would Walter do?"

100% this^^^.

However in the case of a flagrant and known offender, it would be nice to recognize them and start the process sooner, like at the trail head as AndYeti said.

Unless it's the Chris Campbell endo linked to. I ain't messin' with that.

Someone, or a small group (of likely STRAVA riders) has been doing some destruction of plants and wildlife habitat on TEoTE in MTRP. They have been clear cutting brush and bushes to make the trail more open and faster, leaving the cuttings laying as a fire hazard. This needs to stop. If anyone knows who is doing this, please get word to them, as this will cause trail closure. The trail is a two-way trail and should not be ridden downhill at speeds that require a longer line of sight than what was there. The original builders were very careful to not harm the vegetation and make the trail sustainable. This kind of wholesale cutting and breaking of the brush serves no useful purpose to anyone other than the selfish downhiller racers who did it, and gives the MTB community a bad name with other trail users. If the park rangers find out, we may no longer have access to the trail.

I saw it, too.

It's rough looking, for sure, but I have to disagree.

The trails have more flow and are safer when you can see where you're going.
That's a no brainer. Want to meet a horse, hiker or cyclist coming down hill without the benefit of him/her/it?

Why assume it's a demonic band of strava demons?

Maybe the person(s) was simply doing some....spring cleaning? Is that possible or does it have to be a bad person doing a bad thing?

Do the trails get maintained by anyone, officially?
If not, maybe we should cut short some of the outraged, self righteous complaining and become part of the solution? Have any of us done any trailwork out there?

There's a pic posted on the of taped section where someone tried to stop a totally erodng trail from.......eroding. Go look at it in person.

It sure looks like the brush was slowly encroaching on the trail and pushing riders farther and farther out onto an eroded edge of the trail. Destroying the trail, causing more erosion.

Let the first person who's actually done some(any!) trail work out there cast the first stone! :)

oh, and "no" it wasn't me if you're about to accuse me.

Have abngreat weekend, ride safe, and remember to smile. Life is good!

@LD

there can be a fine line between one man's trail sanitization and another's trail maintenance and flow.

it is, however another issue to sanitize trails for one owns purpose, especially when it for such a feigned motive as kom on an internet site.

with the sanitization of 3 barrels when i went there a year ago was heartbreaking, but i've found it to be just the beginning of a bad trend.

...I agree I wouldn't touch that trail at all. You would get blamed for probably all the destruction done not just what you were fixing. Good deeds can sometimes be perceived badly. What happened happened and I would only let the ranger fix it if he thinks it needs it.

Except there is no ranger, because this area is NOT part of MTRP. It may become part of the park at some point in the future (the area is known as the East Elliott expansion area), but as far as I know the park hasn't even purchased much of the land.

It's a tough call. A lot of us (myself included) would like to fix some of what's been done. But some things you can't fix - you can't reattach cut branches, for instance. And if you try to remove the leftover pointy spikes, you'll effectively widen the trail and be perceived by anyone coming by as sanitizing or stravatizing. I'd like to pull some of the dead cuttings out and toss them well away from the trail. I'd also like to remove most of those silly rock borders. But it's like the wild west - there's really no rule of law regarding how or where trails are built or modified. Whatever you might do to the trail, somebody else is going to object.

Wide open to ideas...

So, this is illegal trail, we're talking about? I'm confused.

I thought this was all part of MTRP, based on the posts.

Are you telling me that everyone who uses this trail is essentially trespassing??

And, that there really is no legal access to these trails?

It sounds like there's a a lot pf concern being expressed here about "losing" access to these trails.

Do we even have the access "to lose" in the first place?

So, now you don't even know what you are spewing about? Way to try and make an impressions. It is very simple. If you don't understand the process in place, leave the trails alone.

Access is allowed to a point. You need to do some homework if you really want to find out.

I can almost guarantee that you have already alienated most, if not all, who are in the know. You will be lucky if people here will give you the time of day based on stupid crap you have done in the past.

Trolling is so pretty this time of year......
