Please make time to attend one of the meetings below. Ask the city to build a pump/jump track, bike park and more gravity flow trails. Thanks!

From the City website:

If you could design the city park of the future, what would it look like? Would it be large and centrally located, or smaller and tucked away in your neighborhood? Would it have playgrounds, ball fields and a climbing wall, or would it invite more passive outdoor activities? What about the city’s future recreation programs? What classes would be offered and where? City residents are invited to weigh in on these questions and more at two upcoming public meetings that are part of a planning process designed to create a comprehensive parks and recreation action plan for the future.

Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Carlsbad Senior Center
799 Pine Ave.

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
City of Carlsbad Faraday Center
1635 Faraday Ave.

Have little ones at home? Bring potty-trained kids ages 3 and older along to enjoy fun activities and supervised play onsite, led by trained and certified Parks & Recreation staff during the meeting.

“The Carlsbad community has always valued healthy outdoor lifestyles and strong social connections, and that’s what our parks and recreation services are all about,” said Mick Calarco, special projects manager for the city. “It’s important to hear from residents as we plan for the future to ensure we continue to meet their needs and expectations.”

The Parks & Recreation Department is developing an updated plan for future parks and recreation services to ensure resources are aligned with current and future trends, community values and the city’s changing demographics. In addition to public meetings, the city will collect input online and through mailed surveys, interviews and focus groups with the public.

“The needs assessment and resulting comprehensive plan will help us to develop a mix of parks, facilities, programs and services that addresses the needs of our community and enriches the lives of our residents today and for years to come,” said Calarco.

The assessment and action plan are expected to be complete this fall.

In most cases, the city wants to hear from its residents.
I believe Carlsbad needs to hear from any mountain biker as Carlsbad holds two of the best (Calvera, La Costa) riding areas in north county. Also, when a bike park is opened, riders will drive in from surrounding areas to use it.

I am planning on attending and will discuss the need for trails open to bikes in the new parks coming on line that have some vert (Veterans and Alicante).

Thanks Kimba. I've talked about the potential of Veterans with the parks staff in the past.

Pickleball beat out biking at the meeting. It was a good meeting nevertheless. An online survey goes up Thursday if you can't attend tomorrow's meeting.

Pickleball? You mean the game where you run between bases while the basemen try to get you out? Was this a metaphor or is the game truly a city priority?

I also had not heard of pickleball before tonight. Apparently it is a tennis like game that is easier and uses less space. No kidding, like maybe 1/4 of the room said that was there number one need. Most were older folks.

Ha Ha..it was at the senior center...7 people for bike parks/trails and 13 attendees for pickle ball...oh and one lady wants a city funded labyrinth for meditation and praying..I did learn that there will be a time for discussion/comment/input on an "updated Carlsbad trail master plan"...there is not a set date for that yet. I hope more riders show up tomorrow

Thank you to all who showed up. Kimba did a great job representing the MTB group.
Community Gardens - 14
Pickle Ball - 12
Bike Parks - 7
No other idea had multiple requests. This is great for the bike group. The city knew they were going to get many votes for pickle ball and gardens before they started the process. Bike options are now on the map.

If you are unsure of being part of these meetings, its easy. All you have to do is come out to tonights meeting and say bike park when its your turn to vote.

Thanks J.A. M.

Bike Park would be great. Some nice, flowy trails open to bikes at Veteran's Memorial Park on Faraday to be opened in a few years would be great too. It is so hilly there (it is the last gasp of the Calavera "formations" heading west before the ocean takes over) I have a hard time imagining what else they could possibly do there. Would be nice to have decent trails with vert in a city park with facilities like picnic and bathroom a stones throw away from Calavera. Imagine the debauchery! I live/work right by there so I am a bit biased...

Please fill out the online survey, it is easy, 3 questions.

I agree 100% Kimba. Veterans was brought up as a MTB spot last night also.
