Yup, like the current situation. Everything is closed, except fire roads and streets.

Curious: have you been on Eucalyptus, Little Waimea, or Lopez Canyon?

my 2 cents as a keyboard warrior:

cent 1: there are 2 ways to get trails, or keep them from closing.
a. go the long, hard but politically correct route. and ebasil and others have stood hard for trails against the bike haters club of socal, ie the naive enviro hugging, greenwashed politicos.
b. say screw the haters, i'm making/riding a trail.

i see this as good cop, bad cop. if the politicos see that they can't stop frustrated riders from taking the issue in their own hands, they will need to talk to the guys who suffer on committees and are in it for the long haul. why? because no one else is willing to talk to those boneheads who are shutting everyone out. and the guys on the committees just throw up their hands and say, "you're just not gonna control those guys until you give them some decent trails to ride." this is kinda like skateboarding some decades ago. the public finally succombed and built skate parks. so far though, that hasn't happened in mtn biking. you dirtbags, uh, bad cops, need to create more issues. be more visible. how about building a jump over the mayors house?

so in a sense, there is an odd symbiosis. no need to argue.

cent 2: oh my. i lost my train of thought again. will have to keep it at just 1 cent.

tax break for everyone.

I was thinking we could just starting making ramps and put them in the bike lanes of roads.

Well, now that I'm done PMS-ing and have cried enough over Rick Romney's loss, I'll apologise to Eric Basil.
Eric, sorry for being a dickface and an asshole. Thank you for your work and effort in dealing with the city and keeping the trails open. I do appreciate your efforts and know that you have made a difference. I was just being an asshole before.

Interesting article. I don't think people realize that there are trail builders. There are trails that are always nice to ride because there are people maintaining them, and I guarantee you that they're not equestrians or hikers. Also the places where the trails are maintained tend to have less hikers and equestrians. This means less chance of injuries due to collisions with people. There's probably trails that don't follow this statement, but I don't plan on riding fast on those trails since they're not designed for speed. I thank all the people who try to help out the mountain bikers in whatever way possible, whether it's spending some time fixing a trail, fighting to open trails, paying some tax that I hope won't exist, or some other way.

well, i'm still cranky over the rates they charge for the beaches here. as with the trails argument, why?

it's not so much that we should pay something to maintain beaches, lifeguards, rangers, parking, i get that. but why should a tourist pay exactly the same as a calif resident who already pays taxes for these services? shouldn't we get a break?

and now the rangers/land managers have their hands out too? to ride on trails they don't even maintain? hey, if you catered to the tourist industry you'd be rolling in green.

blah, blah, blah....

now get off my lawn.

young punks.
