But this area is completely surrounded by development and people are going to go there. A much saner method that protects the endangered species while allowing public access is required. The "fence it in and keep them out" method only works far away from civilization.

People generally will be law abiding when laws make sense. But when laws are based entirely upon greed or lies (both apply in DMM), then people will ignore them and become outlaws. Which is exactly where we are know.
That, Mr. OhNooo, my friend, was well said.

That's bad-ass. I had a hell of a time getting an old 30" CRT TV up there on my SS.

It just seems like "we" (MTB'ers including my fat arse) on the surface (since I don't know what might be happening behind the scenes) are not doing anything and just comment about how F'ed up this is. I get it and I'm pissed too. Used to stay out of areas like this and "do the right thing" but not any more. Might see me there later today

The other side of this looks to be marching forward slowing until they get what they want which seems to be complete closure of areas like DMM.
I am willing to spend some time and effort to make this better if I knew what to do.
Reading forums, writing emails, and making calls is what I have been doing but there seems a real need to do much more, now before it truly is too late.
Hit me up or post positive ideas to improve it. Maybe a group dedicated just to this area.
I know of and are a part of forums (two for this area) but I have not seen anything change in a forward motion, just backwards. Not hitting on any one group, person, etc. Just pissed that this stuff happens around us all the time...
Rant over...

someone over on "the new board" came up with a good idea.

That is, someone write a generic letter that can be downloaded and personalized and snail mailed.

That would make it easy for many, many people to get "involved"; I have no idea how many mountain bikers there are in San Diego county but I'd guess the number is the 10's of thousands if not more.

That many letters showing up in a office can't be ignored.

I know there's emial but email doesn't take up physical space and doesn't have to be physically touched to deal with it. It's easy to ignore/deal with.

Letters are not.....

DT shows the Total members at 1362 right now and if you check they are a couple of regular posters hitting the site all the time, some hitting it a time or two, and then it seems to drop off which I would think is pretty typical user activity. RHS would know for sure. I think your number is a bit optimistic as for "active" riders. Love your idea and I know it will help

I think having the numbers that were present at the DMM meeting (estimated 200+) at every meeting, writing positive articles in local mags and web sites, commenting positively under those articles, and most importantly combating false truths (aka lies) with straight out undisputed facts. Take them out with logic and facts and do not try to flame em at every turn. (guilty myself..)

very true dwill.

it would also help if more people would submit responsible comments when this issue is publicized, such as by the public article this thread originated from, rather than speaking to the choir herein.

and yes, rod had a responsible, measured response that made a significant dent through factual rebuttal. it really ticks me off that this article is an anti-bike vehicle cloaked in psuedo-concerns for the environment, yet offers nothing by means of addressing those concerns except to double-down on efforts to keep those dirtbag, low life, ecological terrorists, and yes i mean you, out of the area.

write your politico reps, but also don't allow the public to be swayed by frank and his merry band of holier than thou finger pointers either.

For what it is worth, Rodster, Robo, EBasil, and I are now sitting members on the Los Pen CAC. This is the same CAC that voted in favor of the current trails plan. The same board that voted against the will of 200+ people last year.

While it is too late to reverse past decisions, there is a hope that there will be significant changes to future alignments. Hopefully we can reduce, if not eliminate the anti-bike sentiment on the board. Kind of a Arab spring in PQ.

More to come. Stay tuned...

Yeah, "Frank" is a piece of work. At least he's not trying to hide his agenda, gotta give him that. That and has he brass balls showing up on MTB boards spouting his anti-bike rhetoric.

I did notice he hasn't been back here though.
