SD City Council voted to approve an addition of 55 acres in Oak Canyon. A second addition of 60 acres is anticipated. No map, so it's not possible to tell if these additions will provide enough connectivity to officially open any trails. Not that that's going to stop anyone from riding there. I haven't been in years. Do people still ride Spring & Oak?

^^^ That would be great if it’s the “mad monk” property that blocked the trails. I think there are diehard homies that ride there. Maybe Canaan could tell us but he hasn’t visited DT in a long while. No discussion on STFU yet…

" On Tuesday, the San Diego City Council voted unanimously to approve a donation of dozens of acres of undeveloped, privately-owned land within the park’s boundaries to bolster its conservation efforts in the area."

"It marks one of the first gifts of land to the city to expand Mission Trails in support of goals outlined in a 2019 update to the city’s master development plan to complete the park, as well as other initiatives to preserve native flora and fauna."

I read it as "No shovels gonna be allowed here". Typical land grab to keep it so NOBODY can use it these fantastic natural resources. Kinda like some Lake in N. County

The city is not the issue at MTRP. They had agreed to a pretty decent trail plan. It was CDFW that came in and said no to a lot of the trails. A big part of that was seeing what was going on at places like Ted's, Calavera and Del Mar Mesa with rampant building.

I still have these trails in my rotation. Its really nice and raw currently, just as it was before the knucklehead that was going out there with his spray paint and doing other "maintenance". I see more trail runners and hikers out there than I do riders.

Good to know. I stopped riding out there maybe 10 yrs ago because it was getting so blown out. That was about the time of peak douche dude out there. Might have to give it a go one of these times.

I rode a couple of the remaining neglected trails with Canaan and jSatch two years ago. They (the trails  ) were no longer buff but still fun.

[my mistake — we rode Spring Canyon but not Oak (once jointly known as Sproak), and the article says the properties are in Oak. The former trails blocked by the “mad monk” are in Spring. Rereading news articles and the 2019 MTRP Master Plan Update it seems the land will be only for habitat conservation. The idea of trail connectivity does seem more popular nowadays though. Maybe there’s a little hope there ]
