I know many of you are curious about an update on what is happening with Calavera.

Unfortunately our Audio did not work well during the live stream hosted on Facebook (we tried to host to YouTube and FB at the same time, but it didn't work).

So the next best is to share our Presentation slides with a little review.

We introduced the team and our goals, the current status and what we are working towards.

Some notable points are that we have had Excellent discussion and meetings with Preserve Calavera and are currently trying to work toward a mutually agreeable solution. To that end, we have a site walk with CDFW and Preserve Calavera scheduled for next week to identify Sensitive Habitat and unsustainable trails and vision for the site. Once complete we will be working to complete a Petition to put the matter on the Fish and Game Commission Agenda. Someone from our team will attend the Commission meeting in Sacramento on August August 7/8 to speak and bring the matter to them. At the August meeting it will not be heard, but brought up for awareness and hopefully placement on the October Commission meeting being held in San Diego. At that time it would be decided if they want to move forward, which goes to a public comment period and hopeful decision would be made at the February meeting.

I know this sounds like a long time frame, but that is for an OFFICIAL CHANGE to the property regulations to make Bicycling Legal.

In the meantime, during the site walk we are going to discuss other access ideas, hopefully allowance on the boundary access roads. We will also begin some "Habitat" clean up campaigns for PR, so look for some site work days. These will most likely NOT be Trail build days until we have some approval, these will be clean up/possible Habitat Closure work to get things started.

We are taking a holistic approach and will also be addressing trails on the Volcano, so there might be possibility to start some work there in the name of Hiking Trails/Habitat restoration, etc.

We are also working to see about a bridge over the river at Oak Riparian Park, as well as trail work on the City of Carlsbad land.

Look for more call out for going to City Council meetings in Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista.

Please Review the slides below.

EXCELLENT, thanks for the wrap up. I was home recovering from surgery and could not make the meeting.

Update.

Last Friday, Kristin, Will, and I met with CDFW and a rep from Preserve Calavera to discuss ideas/plans, etc
We believe it was a very encouraging discussion and we have some ways to move forward on this project.
We have been working on the next step and what we have done is attached below.

The local CDFW team seems willing to work on a solution, HOWEVER, they specifically stated that the LAW still states Bicycling is Illegal and they cannot do anything until the Law is changed.

Keeping this in mind, we are hoping to work directly with CDFW and Preserve Calavera to create a plan that can be presented to the Fish and Game Commission to change the law (FOR THIS PROPERTY ONLY).
To help with this effort, if you are out on CHER and see or run into Gabriel, do NOT be confrontational or offensive, he is just doing his job. He wants to protect this habitat from Invasive special and currently Humans are the most invasive species. One of the goals is to make his job easier, by legalizing and working with him on trail maintenance.

We have also engaged several local politicians who are also working to influence CDFW and eventually the Fish and Game Commission at a state level.

So please don't take any silence as a lack of action, there is a TON of stuff happening in the background. We just can't update on a daily basis.
