Went up to Monterey for the Monterey Historics, but swung by the Santa Cruz Soquel Demo Forest to do some riding on the way.

Got out and rode the Infamous "FLOW" Trail.

Not my Video, mine will come later

What nobody tells you is, you have to WORK for this. There's 1000ft climb to get to it, then another 1000 ft climb to get back to the trail head. But you get 1200-1600 feet of decent all at once, depending on where you start.

I got the full 1600, because I made a wrong turn someplace and climbed a section I shouldn't have. Got to the end of that section saw a guy that asked how that was, and he'd never seen anyone climb that section before. Strava mostly backs up those claims. I was ranked 3796/5736 on the main climb, and 816/1396 on the "Extra" section.

Climbing UP took about an hour, descending took 42 min, then climbing out took another 45 min. Flow by itself only took 21 minutes to descend. The other 20 minutes was the "extra" section that is rocky and gnarly. I also took a break in that time section.

Overall on FLOW descending on Woodie (Full Rigid) I was 5143/8056, only 11 minutes and 8 mph behind that fastest....

I'll make it up there one of these days. I have indeed read about all the WORK over at MTBR.

The Soquel Demo trails are great. A couple of locals gave me a guided tour a few years ago, and it was very fun. The highlight was Braille, as Flow hadn't been built yet. And, because you park in the middle elevation-wise, it breaks up the climbing and even I could handle it. The climb back to the car was partially shaded and never too steep. Nice.

BTW, what are these strava numbers you speak of? This is DT.
