So the wife and I are gonna go up to Santa Barbara for Labor Day weekend. I've read about some really fun trails that would be fun to ride. Thing is, she is a beginner so I need something kinda mellow to ride with her on. I'm looking for some suggestions from anyone who has ridden in that area.

If there is a shuttle-able trail that you know about as well that would be welcomed as I could maybe get her to shuttle me for a run or two on our last day.

I've ridden two trails up there. Santa Barbara is not very beginner friendly; However, Romaero Canyon may be doable for her? There are a couple sections she will have to dismount but other than that it should be enjoyable. It's a long climb but easy-ish.
For you...Tunnel. It's a shuttle. It's brutal. Take all of Noble's rocky sections and add them into one long 4 mile trail. It's like widow maker, barney rubble, staircase, and extra credit all rolled up into one neat little package. BUT... user conflicts abound on tunnel. Just last month I was riding Tunnel and one person I encountered bitched at me because she didn't hear me coming, becuase "you don't a bell", in her words. Maybe she didn't hear me coming but I wonder if the person she was talking to on the phone heard me?

I was going to take my kids while we were in Carpinteria, but I couldn't get past Island Brewing...

I think that will be a good one for Monday morning. Thanks Mike. Car travel time is 30 mins, so it should be about the same for me to get down, or I may wait a little while. Ill pack my bear bell for the trip.

As far as beginner stuff, I think I may try to contact a mtb tour group and see if they cant point me to where they take people for beginner to intermediate. Or call a local bike shop and see what they say.

I did find out while riding with my wife this evening that she rides a lot faster if she rides behind me. I guess it takes a lot of the stress off about picking lines and she can concentrate more on staying on her bike and less about worrying what is coming up on the trail. Also adds some perspective for what her bike and wheels can actually roll over if she is watching my bike do it.

Thanks couchracer for that link too. I think the eling park will be a pretty cool riding place for us.
