Where does this trail start, like where's the top of this trail?

It starts from the Poway side sycamore staging area, right off the parking lot. You climb up to the top of the ridge by the power lines then it's pretty much all down hill till you get to Pomerado Rd. The dirt ends after a while and dumps you onto Beeler Canyon Rd.

I do it as a loop since I live in the area:

Thanks for the 411. Do you have a map? A few weeks ago, we thought about exploring for the connection linking Beeler Cyn Rd with that trail to end a certain ride out there instead of riding up the paved road, but did not since Google Earth seemed to show it would take us way too far west and we were thirsty. Also was wondering if you knew about the trail from Costco to tip top, PM if appropriate.

You can hop on the trail right from Sycamore Canyon Rd, http://goo.gl/maps/nxRHb (can't see it on the map but it's obvious when you are there in person)

There's a little hole in the fence just past the gate there, then go up that road like 50 yards and hop onto the trail. Climbing up those switchbacks is kind of a PITA for me, but I'm old slow and fat :) I've ridden it both ways and think it's more fun to start at the staging area and come down vs riding up to staging area.

Pretty sure Mr Giant rides this trail regularly (or at least used to) and I think they drop down the hill directly from Costco / old Gateway Bldg area and get directly onto the beeler canyon section of trail? I've never done that - I always ride up from garden road area.

This is the route I did: http://app.strava.com/activities/47541379 - I can shoot you link to that on garmin after work if strava doesn't let you see it. I have another track I'll PM you for the other trail you are talking about

Did that trail as an out and back last Thursday. It would be great if it connected to something beside Beeler canyon rd. nice little single tho

you could probably head up that paved access rd into the back of Ranch Encantada right where the dirt ends at the gate / drops you onto Beeler Canyon, then loop back around on the fire road back toward sycamore. A little more of a loop that way, or you could drop all the way down to the horse trails at the bottom of sycamore canyon rd. and loop / climb back around up to Tip Top. Lots of climbing no matter which way you go though.

Yeah we used to ride the trail quite a bit until it got fenced up during the power lines construction. We used to drop from Costco and climb up the cement driveway to get to the ridge line then drop down to sycamore before the entrance to Martha's parking lot.

different section of same trail. Nothing much happens in video - basically 3 dudes riding their bikes on a fire break, but with the complete lack of any good summer TV it'll help kill 4 minutes of your day

Saw a huge buck up there. Around the 1:10 mark.
