<3 Surly

This is before I tricked it out with some ridiculously bright lights and Planet Bike fenders. Now it is a lean, mean commuting machine.

Desired upgrades:
* Alternate pannier
* Chopspokes
* Brakes that work as well as the Vs on my Stumpjumper :(

Got a Bike Friday New World Tourist off Craigslist:

Image

It has mostly LX components, a wacky 3-speed, internally-geared hub instead of a triple crank, and 8-speed cassette. It doesn't fold fast and easy like most commuter folders (BF Tikit, Dahons, etc.), but it does fit into a hardshell suitcase (which was included) and feels quite solid. It rides like a regular bike.

edit: It rides like a regular bike, except I look and feel like some sort of circus clown. I'm getting over that.

^ I like bikes, however there is no way I could keep my man card and ride that thing.

I was riding on El Cajon Blvd and a guy open his car door without looking and his door cut the bartape. Luckily I didn't fall and get run over by the cars zooming by!
I got new tape recently, now that my student loans came in! It's going to be clean again.

Yikes. Guess it's a good thing your bar tape took the hit for the rest of you. Since you're in the money now, may I suggest you find yourself some new bar tape that matches the rest of the bike? You will look so good.

I got leather bartape for the bike, but I'm going to sell the Masi soon. I'm building up the following Steel Frame bike, with Campy parts.
