...or swim, maybe participate in tri-athlons? Go to the gym, spin or have a completely different workout from cycling?
Well, if so, you now have a place to discuss it, have fun!

Don't really like running but I do love to swim. Just haven't been in the water in a couple months. Would like to do a Sprint-Tri some time, sounds like a bunch of fun. Anyone here ever try those??

Sprint Tri-s are a blast. The fiesta del sol in Solana Beach is a great one. Nothing better than passing a bunch of tri geeks on a mountain bike with road slicks. :D

That's what I always worried about, not having a road bike. But I hear people are out there on beach cruisers! I'll have to do that some time!

I run, training for a marathon now. Very complimentary to riding, and its a lot easier to squeeze in an 8 mile run in versus a 20 mile ride.

Let us know how it goes, good or bad. Running 26.2 miles is quite an accomplishment, irrespective of your time or placement.

La wife dragged me into running ten years ago. Now I don't do it more than once a week. I used to log a lot more running miles and plan to up it later this month.

We set goals every few years or so to keep it a fun and progressive thing. Last year we did marathon #2 together, first one in 8 years for both of us. It hurt but was a great thing to do together just like the first one. Nothing like crossing the line holding your wife's hand in the air. OK, everybody can go "awwww."

Anyway, running and mtb are very complementary pursuits in my opinion.

I heard of a recent RHS running siting at Calaveras. :bang:

Running used to rule my world... I ran at Noble Canyon for 7 years before I put two wheels on that trail. It took another 2 years for me to actually get hooked on MTB and ride the whole darn thing. I do credit my fitness to 10 years of running and I still run 2 times a week. I choose to run when I don't have anyone to ride with or I don't have enough time to make a ride worth while. Running on the PCT is like going to heaven. I dislike running on sidewalks and treadmills.

I've always wanted to do a triathlon but I really dislike swimming.

I tried a spin class for the first time this past spring and I thought it was a great workout especially in such a short period of time. If my schedule worked better with the group class schedule at the gym I think I'd probably incorporate this once a week.

I like yoga but I don't regularly practice.

I do alot of 'cross training' these days.

I run about 4-5 days a week... two 5 mile runs and two 8 mile runs.

I try hit the gym about 4 days a week for weight training... and while I am at the gym I try to pound out a fast 5k.

I am gonna start throwing in swimming back into the mix. I really enjoyed swimming... pool swimming sucks but open water is some fun shit... Kind of the difference between running on a track and running on a trail.

needless to say my bike time is down significantly.. I used to ride 5-6 days a week... now it's down to about 2-3 if I am lucky :(

I should try running the PCT... the thing is if I am gonna drive all the way up there I am going to want to get a ride in.

Ride then run. One of my favorite things to do. Make both of them hard too, it makes you a better person. I like to do a big loop on the bike from Penny Pines(25+ miles), then run the PCT to Garnet Peak and back. Extend the run as you like. I also like to run the section of the Noble Canyon 50k course starting from Penny Pines.
