Let me say first of all that there will be no pictures of this injury.

I hurt my tailbone about a month ago at Coldstone. I thought it was kind of funny at first, but it has become a real drag. The soreness went away on vacation, presumably because I rode only once over a 10 day period. Now that I'm back on the bike, the pain has returned and is even worse than before. I feel like such an old man, wincing every time I stand up.

I've thought about going to the doctor, but what would he do for me? Put a cast on my ass?

Buy one of those pillows that is shaped like a donut. That should help.

NFW on the donut -- I'd rather endure the pain than listen to all the smack my boys will run on me.

^^^ Didn't have enough speed to make it up on top of the rock. When I rolled straight back, I tried to put my feet down so I wouldn't flip. I didn't fall, but I did take the nose of the seat right on the tailbone with full body weight before my feet touched down. And to think that was nervous about an endo on the other side . . . .

Grandma took a little spill at the sand dunes today. Broke her coccyx.

I'm a Primary Care doc, not an Orthopedist, but I would recommend getting some plain films taken so you can see whats going on down/in there. The bit about the pillow is right. I broke my tailbone, coccyx , from snowboarding when I was 12yo, and all they did for me was sit on this inflatable dougnut. FYI that certainly did not help my coolness and or street credibility due to already being a fat kid at the time.

Big things to keep an eye out for are numbness and tingeling sensations in your pelvic region and new bowel or bladder or erectile issues.

As for treatment besides the ring pillow and NSAIDs for inflammation and Tylenol for pain, give it 2-3 weeks without giving it a pounding.... Pun intended

Ice it. The first thing any athlete does when done with practice or a game for an injury....for as long as the injury lingers.

We need a new forum for old people to discuss blood thinners, dental crowns, reading glasses for MTB'ing, how to get rid of age spots, tips for hair coloring, ED........and instead of talking about Stan's FLOW rims we can talk about getting any flow at all :D

^^^ Too funny. Tilt the bike at a 45 degree angle, shoot his feet wildly out to the sides, and that's right on the money.
