Marion bear overflow channel...Am I the only one?

So I just finished a nice ride at marion bear. I was having a wonderful ride, riding Cobb trail several times to get some air time. Then I decided instead of riding back to my place on the rose canyon bike path, I should ride the trail on the east side of the overflow channel, something I have done several times before. But not this time. 1/3 of the way through my pedal hit the high side of the trail, knocking me off balance. I did a slow tilt until I came sliding down into the channel. Now I have road rash all over and a throbbing knot on my forearm. I hope its nothing more than that. And 3 people saw me go over, none even stopped to ask if I was ok. What makes the road rash pain go away?

So am I the only one that has taken the plunge?

I've ridden that trail quite a few times and always wondered how much it would suck to go down like you did. Wait, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say "suck" and "go down" in the same sentence like that, but... well, it is Marion Bear, after all. Ok, back to watching your avatar now....

I have eaten shit there before... Same deal... pedal strike and then high sided over into the drainage.

for road rash, you must scrub it really well first (steel brush or similiar), thats gonn ahurt bad, but the cleanliness will pay off later in quick and less painfull recovery.

Oh and pedaling that section has its risks, thats why there is the dab line across that whole thing. At least it wasnt winter or you might need a shot or two lol. :cheers:

I used to get goin' real fast down in the flat bottom of that thing and then scoot up to the top, until one time I caught a pedal on the concrete side going up. Right OTB, at about 18 mph....

Lost some skin on that one. Glad I was wearing gloves and wraparound polycarb glasses, tho.....

Last time I was thru there last week, the bottom was almost completely dry, except for a little mud at the N. end.

I'd go with the scrubdown, chase it with neosporin antibiotic (consider what flows down that channel in heavy rains) then ClimbOn salve (REI) until the rash fades

I agree, I've had really good results for years with what is probably a very similar product, Joshua Tree Climbing Salve. I just checked online to be sure it's still available, and found they tweaked the formula and make a Cycling Salve product now.

I’ve almost used up my twenty year old bottle. It’s the best stuff but I don’t need it that often since I trash my body less frequently. But sometimes I get those damn splits in my thumbs and fingers in dry weather. It heals those.

My niece got a house near there so I think it’s time to check out the drainage. Thanks for the reminder. I could have used some salve I am in the hurt locker.

I’m doing much better except for my toe. I had a pedal strike my toe was in the way.

To the left it where the rocky section was where you had to climb down to get to the trail and then make a right it’s different now you can’t fall over unless you jump over the wires.

They paved it. Both sides are still really beautiful. If you could’ve went through the garden center or nursery it would still be a nice loop.
