Looks like this ride makes a better "every other week" ride. We had a great showing last week and if there is any interest this week I will be glad to show up with beers and my climbing legs. Just post up who is game for Thursday and I will be there...Wheels rolling at 5:45pm.

I am planning to make it again this week - the ride over to Pyles Peak just makes the dreadful fireroad some much more worthwhile climbing!

I'm out -- I need to do this ride a few times on my own (hopefully I'll develop some climbing legs) before I join you guys again. It's a bitch of climb, but the singletrack on the way down, especially Big Rock, is so much fun . . . .

I'd like to make it all the way over to Pyles someday, too.

I can't make it either - taking my daughter out for her 14th birthday.

I seem to have a complicated relationship with this mountain. If I approach her slowly, whisper in her ear a bit, stroke her gently, then take my time climbing her with plenty of breaks to admire her many views, she'll show me a good time. But if I rush in, try to hurry things along because I want to keep up with the younger, faster guys and show her how tough I am, she just slaps me down again and again.

Last time up, I pushed too hard trying to climb her, and at one point almost passed out on the trail - literally, I had to get off my bike and grab some branches on her nearest bush because I was so dizzy. Plus, maybe she was angry because I showed up late. And, on my last two romps with her, she threw me OTB on the descent. Nothing serious, no injuries but a few bruises. Mainly she had to bruise my pride, show me who's boss - maybe her way of telling me to slow down, pay my respects and enjoy the ride (and show up on time).

By contrast, a coupla months ago I met up with her, on my own - just me and her and all afternoon to kill. I took my time getting up on her, kinda played around and let her know I was there without startling or threatening her. She rewarded me by letting me climb all the way up and over her top (although I lingered there for a while), then I got to play on her backside (Pyles Peak). I had to allow almost 4 hours for that ride, even though I covered less than 9 miles. And while on top of her, she let me, yes, even encouraged me, to triumphantly look down (and take some pictures) of some of my more frequent mistresses (Oak, Spring and Sycamore).

So enjoy the ride, fellas, and give the mountain my respects. Tell her I'll be back soon.

I knew for sure these guys were way out of my league when Cisco said it would be fun to climb and descend Cowles twice on the same ride.

Not this week -- maybe the week after next. Did this ride on Saturday with Slowgrind, and it didn't hurt quite as bad as when I did it last with the Thursday night group. Have fun tonight.

I think with the lightning and SDMBA ride today we have no takers. We will give it a go next week.

Anyone interested this week 7/22? We can head over to Pyles or do a couple loops around Mesa and Big Rock. Hell we could even climb big rock this week. Let me know, I'll bring the beers.
