Can anyone help me map out a good road route that starts out at Paradise Point and ends up being 20-30 miles roundtrip?

I've got to map one out for a client of mine, but have no idea what's considered a good road ride.

Any help would be appreciated.

What are you/they looking for?

First thought that would come to my mind would be the following:
Mission Bay drive to the end (rose creek bike path).
Right turn at the bike path (lots of bums and bumps and some bridge under crossings)
Rose creek bike path until the east mission bay drive
Cross east mission bay drive, head north on Santa Fe
End of Santa Fe then Left on Gilman
Gilman north until the University and make the first left (after entrance) to Torrey pines
right on torrey pines and follow this north to Del Mar
turn around and head back

Lots of variations to this ride, Soledad being the main one should they want to ride up the hill and get the view.

That would be mission bay drive to rose creek bike path, rose creek to the second bridge under crossing then a right immediately after this under crossing (grand ave) which pops you out at the bottom of soledad mtn road. Soledad up to the top, descend Via Capri (17% and umpy concrete, be careful). Left on Ardath , immediate right on Torrey Pines, ride north and turn around at will.

The latter of these is "preferred" with much better views and a hell of a ripping descent down Via Capri but if they aren't climbers and don't do well on sketchy grades, this one isn't advised.

Which Direction do you want to go? The cool thing about google maps, although still in beta stage is that it can help you find a route for bicycles. This one is pretty fun. You can also click and drag some of the points to modify the route.

I would go on a counterclockwise route so it ends with great views of the beaches.

My educated guess is they are serious riders since they work for one of the biggest manufacturers of bicycle components. So I don't want to put together a "family-friendly" type of route.

Nice. I need to play with that bike routing feature.

I was going to suggest a similar route but include Mt. Soledad. CCW is definitely the way to go.

Another option would be to go South down Pacific Hwy, through the Embarcadero/Seaport Village/Convention Center area to the very end of the bay, then ride up the Strand to Coronado and take the ferry back across (after a stop at Peohe's for cocktails). Sorry, don't remember the exact route -- it's been years.

BKJ - Try this one. It's a 33 mile route and will take them out to Cabrillo monument and through balboa park. Nice ride and scenic.

Then send them north over Soledad and be sure they come back over Via Capri.

Looks like a nice route, but not sure it's really a 33-mile bike ride. Looks more like a 6-mile helicopter ride (in a straight line) from Mission Bay to Balboa Park, followed by a really nice 27-mile loop that starts and finishes near the Zoo.

Unfortunately I think you have to pay to get past the gate and up to the lighthouse or down to the tidepools (the latter gives you a healthy climb back to Catalina Blvd.). Still scenic though.
